What to do with Corliss Williamson?

Or just let his contract expire. His salary off the books would help offset the increases other players are set to get going into next year. Corliss by all reports that I have seen is a good locker room presence and is simply a pro. He may or may not fit into Musselman's plans, so I simply do not know.

It's kind of ironic how much value an expiring contract has. But, if we can package him with a couple guys from our stable of 1 and 2 players for a 6' 11" power forward drafted out of high school that would be cool. OR maybe a guy with the nick name "the Big Ticket". 1 other way would be for a guy with the initials KG.

I agree with Celt. We do NOT need a second round draft pick. His expiring contract is worth a lot more than some questionable player that would most likely not even make the team.

For some reason they seem to be even more valuable at the trade deadline. I guess because some teams see they aren't going anywhere with certain personell and choose to rebuild the next season so they take on expiring deals to have cap room themselves. Even with our expiring contracts we will still not be under the cap and if so it won't be much. But you don't trade it for a pick. A trade for something needed is a no brainer but holding on just for the cap room is pointless.

I should have been more clear. While we're over the salary cap, we are - just barely - under the amount where the luxury tax will kick in. Our salary is somewhere around $62.6 million. That means although they're "over the cap," they aren't into the luxury tax penalty situation.

So, yes... we're over the salary cap. But we aren't into the penalty.

Nah, don't trade an expiring contract for a 2nd round player. Expiring contracts are in a lot of cases what makes a deal. I say keep him, and trade him before the deadline.

Williamson is the only player on the Kings with championship experience, and he was way under-used in '05-06. Either his skills are in decline, or Adleman didn't appreciate what he brings to a team. I think it's the latter. Too bad - this guy knows how to win, and he's wasting away on a team that doesn't care about him.

I don't think there's any indication to support that last comment. Corliss is very well thought of by pretty much everyone who wears the uniform of the Sacramento Kings. Was he under-utilized last year? I think so but I wasn't in on all the decision-making back then. Will he be under-utilized this year? I think we'll have to just wait and see how Coach Muss uses his roster.

I do think he brings a lot to the team, even if he doesn't step onto the court.

Corliss deserves better, he was extremely under-utilized, and whether or not his team-mates liked him, they're not the ones who decide on his playing time. Dude is 33, and if the Kings won't play him he needs to go to another team that can use his skills before it's too late.

Sorry, but I'm not going to be playing any violins for Corliss. I like him, I respect him and I'm glad he's back on the Kings. But to say he "deserves better" implies that he's still the Corliss he was a few years ago. He's not. None of us are, as a matter of fact.

He's not playing for free; he's being paid whether he steps on the court or sits on the bench. He has a good attitude about it and I think he's an asset that might be better utilized this season, but I'm not of the opinion that he needs to be pitied or something.
