What? Kings one of the best defensive teams in the NBA?

Yes, I said it. The Kings are now one of the best defensive teams in the league.

After doing some research I came up with some intresting stats. Let me share them with you.

In the past 10 games(basically since Artest came.)

Opponents points allowed: 6th (89.2 pts/gm) - Did you ever think we would see the day where we are holding teams to less than 90 points. Scary.

Opponents Field Goal Percentage: 2nd (40.4%) - Wow, that is amazing. This is better than '02' season.

Opponents 3 Point Percentage: 2nd (26.8%) - The perimeter is awesome now.

Rebounding Difference: 6th (+2.5) - I never thought we would be outrebounding teams. Everybody says that Artest and Peja have the same amount of rebounds per game, but the difference is Artest boxes out Peja didn't. That allows our bigs to rebound more.

Just imagine once our offensive gets into a flow we could potentially be unstoppable.
 
Nice stats. I agree, if the offense can get clicking, woohoo!

So are we paying Ron to be a defensive coach as well? :)
 
Good Info, I was waiting for someone to break down our defensive stats since Artest's arrival. It's amazing how much 1 guy can influence an entire team. The defensive effort by all players has noticeably increased. I never thought I would love a "defensive" minded Kings team because of the "greatest show" days but they are becoming more fun to watch each game.
 
Those are great stats, without a doubt. However I would like to see similar results against more quality teams. But still quite remarkable.
 
Stats would even mean something if we'd played some real games on the road or against quality opponents.

It's nice to see - but we've played some hurting teams. I want to see how we perform against some less middling teams. That's where the bread is buttered.

But, it is nice to see nonetheless.
 
How bout Offence and Differential. I know differential is much better than before. I know offence is slightly down, but the key stat is differential.

I don't know about the whole team - but Artest's +/- is +13.7 ... that's absurd!

Talk about impact!
 
For the season the Kings have a +.7 point differential. They are the only team in the league right now that has a positive point differential and not currently in playoff position.
 
Some one please check my numbers but I've calculated 97.5 as our scoring average since the trade.

A couple of games definitely skew the numbers, Atlanta, first Chicago, Utah, and Golden State (differential wise but I think that happens with a lot of teams).

That's right...which gives us a differential of +5.8 since Artest's arrival.

We do, Jamal Sampson proved that last year with Charlotte (bad/young team or not, he still produced in limited minutes). He just doesn't get played.

We also have Skinner who really isn't very athetic but a pretty good shot blocker. His problem is offensively he just doesn't mix in that well. Adelman doesn't seem to put in defensive players who have very low offensive capabilities. I think both players share this. Defensive players with offensive capabilities are a rarity in the league and are usually some of the best players (Duncan, KG, Kobe, Artest ( :) ), Wade, Shaq ( not as much anymore ) ). Usually you get 1 or the other.
 
Indeed.. it's sad.

Though you could say as of late w/ Jamal, Sampson has had one of his hands in a black brace. Must of hurt it in practice. Rick wouldn't of played him anyways. ;)

I believe that the + differential has come since the Artest trade. IIRC, we were dead even a couple weeks ago or so. Things are improving, and we're clawing our way back into contention.
 
The only requests I have for this team are the following:

We continue to play with heart and determination even on the road, even when were struggling.

Artest as well as he's playing defensively, can help us by taking a couple less questionable shots (especially 3 pointers) until he gets back to 100% offensively.

And lastly, let Ron show the team how to defend better (already seems to be working).

If all these things work, I think the team will do well. We might get an unfavorable matchup in the playoffs but I think this team is now better than there record and might get knocked out early. But if we keep the core of this team, next year we can really make a dent in the conference and might be back in the same breath as other top teams. GO KINGS!!!!!
 
To me it is not a matter of offense/defense anymore. It is now home versus road. The Kings have to find a way to execute much better on the road.

When I was researching our glaring weakness offensively was Turnovers. Everything else was good. If we can limit our Turnovers we'll be fine.
 
Whats our FG% before and after the trade? I think it's fallen slightly. Doesn't matter though. Kevin has played well, maybe it isn't so low (SAR and Kenny too % wise.
