This season, I think the peak is a 1st round exit.

With the poor start I think we locked ourselves into the 7th or 8th seed at best. Even this early on it is easy to tell that the difference in the sixth and seventh seed will be huge. If the Kings get that 7th or 8th seed, they will have to play Golden State or San Antonio. I don't see a way around those being automatic first-round exits.

Being a tortured and playoff deprived Kings fan, this season I would jump for joy if we made the playoffs. However, if this thing could really excel and get the 6th seed, it would make things very interesting for the playoffs. The playoffs are where a player like Rudy Gay and DeMarcus Cousins could really excel in a slow down half court game.

Since we are talking about peaks for this season and next those are the predictions I throw out

First round and out. Maybe second round, if we get the right matchup (read: not the Warriors or the Spurs). Upgrade the starting SG, get Cauley-Stein out of Karl's doghouse, and maybe we've got something.

Not impressed with the defense at all, not sure its going to improve much either.

The West seems more open this season, lots of early struggles for others.

Somewhere between mediocre and first and out.

I don't consider us at a massive disadvantage however in a series considering our big fella, with the exception of the Warriors we've got a fighters chance.

Darned good question. I have no idea what the answer is. That question keeps me coming back as a fan. We'll know when it's all over.

with a healthy demarcus cousins and a greater emphasis on defense, i'd say this roster could compete their way into the second round. but that strikes me as their absolute peak, and only if karl steps off the gas peddle a bit, if the team commits to playing at least league average defense, if everything breaks right in the seeding, and if "playoff boogie" is a monster that every team should fear having to face. this is the most talented roster that the kings have had in years, but it remains a work in progress...

First round exit would be the ceiling, and that's an unlikely event, given that Cousin would have to be virtually 100% healthy for the rest of the year.

Assuming we make it to the playoffs, I see no reason why we couldn't give a team like the Spurs a run for their money!

Not sure if that's our peak, but my point is if we make it the the playoffs a lot of things will change with the mindset of some of our players.

If Ben becomes that missing shooter/defender, this time can make some playoff noise. One of the top 3 making another leap forward would do the same, but you can't really ask for much more from them.

As is, they might be competitive in the first round.

Based on the team's performance thus far I chose mediocre. Defense wins games and the Kings don't play defense. If the team plays defense they win more games. Not too hard to understand. BB is a simple game.

-Cheers.
