We Need A Shooter

When it comes down to it, I think the #7 pick needs to bring a 3 point shooter to the team. Whether it be drafting a player or trading it for a shooter, we must improve from behind the arch to have any chance of a playoff run. Right now the only shooters I "trust" would probably be Thornton and Garcia with Casspi hopefully joining the list soon. All 3 can hit the 3, but we lack a real threat from long distance that will effect the other teams defensive gameplan. So this is what I am thinking...

At #7 Brandon Knight will be gone, and so the top shooter won't be a option unless we trade up to 3/4. So that leaves Jimmer and Klay Thompson. Looking at both prospects, most people seem to fall in love with the JimmerMania that surrounds him and his talents. But when looking at them both I think we should lean towards Thompson. Klay is the less risky prospect, who like Jimmer, is a proven shooter. Klay has the upperhand with his size and athlectism and IMO can give us production a lot earlier than Jimmer could. I can see Klay becoming a Ray Allen type player( no not an all time great, but similar role) for us as a guy who can hit clutch 3's when Tyreke drives into the lane.

I still do love Jimmer as a prospect and think he will succeed in the NBA. I just think his size and lack of athlectism will hurt him a lot early on until maybe 3 or 4 years when he learns how to keep up in the NBA.

A line up with Klay...

PG Evans/Beno
SG Thornton/Thompson
SF Casspi/Garcia/Greene
PF Cousins/Thompson
C Dalembert

When it gets down to #7, I wouldn't be surprised if Thompson is the BPA on a lot of teams boards. Other than the top 4(Irving, Williams, Knight, Kanter) there isn't much of a difference in talent. So instead of wasting money in F/A we would use our draft pick for our shooter and use the money to sign Dalembert and Thornton to longer contracts and also to hopefully add a vet presence at SF if we do indeed get rid of 1 or 2.
