Viewing Gathering for Monarchs @ Sparks

Monarchs @ Sparks (Game Discussion)

I was chatting with NothinButHoops @ the BBQ today re: whether we'd settled on a place to meet. She suggested maybe we meet @ Joey B's, which may now be the official hang out for away game viewings by the Monarchs staff. The location is 16th and Capitol, downtown.

I'm up for meeting there. I have an obligation in the bay area earlier in the day but with traffic, I might not make it much earlier than the tip. If folks wanna meet there earlier and grab a table that'll be great. If I'm the first one there, I may stick around until half time if others want to come by later.

Monarchs game ata Joey B's

I'll try & call to make sure we can watch it there. It does play the same time as the NBA finals, so I'm sure most TV'S will be on that?

Monarchs game at Joey B's

Just called Joey B's ...they said to just check in with the bar tender & we can get the game on one or more of the tv's...
So come on out Monarch fans...support our team for the MVP road game! The food at Joey. B's is very good!:)

Welp...this game looked familiar now didn't it? We need better mojo for Joey B's because that place is now 0-2. They did hook us up tho with a big screen and some sound and the food is still good. :) Thanks for sharing the esctasy and the agony that was tonight's game NBH and Carole!! :)

I guess they maybe might get the point that:

(1) they should make their damn FTs.
(2) rebounding on both ends of the floor is important
(3) a motion offense DOES NOT require you to pass the damn ball around so that every freakin' player on your team has touched it twice before anyone has permission to shoot
(4) shot selection is important anyway but shot selection with the game on the line is a tad bit more important. What the hell kind of shots were they taking at the end of that game - when they actually had a chance to win it.

I mighta taken Maiga off Holdsclaw and put her on Mabika at some point. I'm sure that might have meant that Holdsclaw would have taken up the slack because she was pulling shots out of her proverbial...too. But geewhiz, I know Mabika hasn't had a game that ridiculous in about 2-3 years. I might have chanced it just to get a bigger/longer body on Mabika.

I got the offensive motivation for the lineups in the 4th, since LA dropped into a zone...but, some of those shooters (a) needed to take shots and when they were taking shots to actually try to take good ones. I know that's asking a lot because I've been ^%%%%ing for them all to shoot - but they appeared to know what good shots were earlier in the game. (b) need to rebound the basketball and when they get in in their hands they need to hold onto it.

That was just bad.

I'll overstate the obvious and say they need to finish this home stand strong and take all 3 games. I seriously do believe that going on the road for a long stretch may help them. I also seriously believe that they will now fast track DeMya's return. I thought I heard them giving some stats on Yo's rebounding numbers and how they have dropped precipitously and had done so again tonight. (I'm not EVEN going to look at the box score until later in the week). If Brunson could score and keep up with her defensive rotations, Yo might be getting some help on the boards - but coach just really isn't into giving Brunson minutes right now. She may as well buy a ticket in the 4th quarters....

Ugh...

Thanks for the company MBF & Carole...Yeah I'm 0-2 at Joey B's but I do like the atmosphere. We had the front room to ourselves.
Same reaction as MBF damn can anyone take a shot, because when they do, good things happen. Erin was tough, but those missed free throws hurt.
Mabika had a break-out game...what a shooting display. M. Page was clutch.

Hope the Monarch MVP'S don't have too long a trip home...I know the players will.
See you all Wed. Come on Monarch's!!!

Back in my room down in Anaheim after a tough loss. I would like to say that the fans from Sac, represented in a big time way tonight down in Staples. We were noticed, we were loud and they did not like us very much.

As far as the game, once LA threw down with the zone in the fourth, plus missed free throws, plus a sensational game by Mbeka (one of the most underrated players in the history of the league) then you get what you get.

Big t hanks to MBF, 6th and NBH for the extra tickets. They went to good use.:)

Couldn't have said it better Myself

MBF...

I think you hit on all the points for this game.

I was actually rather encouraged by Lawson and Nicole. Despite the loss There finally seems to be progressive improvement in this team. And that is a very good sign.

They are gonna have to fast track DeMya's Timetable. I don't want to, but I really see no choice. She wants to play, so why hold her off until the All-Star game. We get her back sooner, we can make a serious post Break run.

I actually think Brunson had a good game tonight. She slashed to the basket and did some nice things out there.

Question... Does the Monarchs Coaching Staff not know how to break a zone? I thought it was interesting that he pulled Haynie after she hits 2 zone busting jumpshots for Ticha, but leaves Maiga in the game. Don't mind the Ticha Sub, but you can't have 2 non-jump shooters on the floor.

I would have come back with Erin or Bekkah and Took my chances. Mabika was killing us anyway. In a 2-3 the forwards have to get out on the wings. With Bekkah or Erin in the game, they can't cheat out like they were.

But I still am encourged. Kara took quite a few Mojo shots during the game. Nicole looked nice. Erin took the ball at Lisa. And we were in the game. I have no idea why we stopped shooting the ball. We really didn't go cold. We just stopped shooting.

Free Throws--- Damn could have used them.

But MBF you are right on the money.

Shoot the Ball when you are open. Period!!!

Brunson had a good first quarter or so and was much more aggressive looking than she had been.

I think coach tried to pick his poison with the zone busting group he left out there in the 4th. I got why he had Maiga out there (sorta) but I just would have switched who I had her on. In the end it probably didn't matter because Meek was nearly just as freakish. LA got quicker and we couldn't go quick because that left us without perimeter threats. You would have had to run point through Dorrell which might have been intriguing...in the preseason. Weird as it sounds to say Maiga has more range than either Brunson or Buescher and neither of them were going to get shots or decent touches until LA left the zone which I wouldn't have done until Sacramento showed it wanted to actually shoot more than pass. I got the feeling Yo was only out there for defense and to be a safety valve (that's even weirder sounding to say).
