up by 32 against utah with 3 mins left in the 3rd........ does anyone think they will be able to take the 8th spot...... i dont know its gonna be a close one with Memphis' hard schedule

i think of the 8 games left for minny, only 3 of them have a winning record. and well you know memphis has a brutal schedule ahead.

it's gonna be close. but i hope memphis takes the 8th!

Well, I don't know whether I think they will, but I certainly hope they will.

Not sure why, but I have this strange feeling that Timberwolves will make the playoffs. If they do, I really hope they get to play against Spurs or Suns, so that whoever wins is tired for the 2nd round.

exactly^ LOL...I can't wait for us to clinch so that i can safely route for them over Minny since Denver is safely over them for the 7th spot now

it really would be sad though if Memphis fell out of the POs it doesn't seem like that long ago that they were actually in the 6th spot...they would have had a great season (since Fratello showed up at least) just to throw it away in the final month...i like the Grizz so I hope they make it and its not soley cuz i want them to beat out Minny

memphis also has 2 games left with minni if i'm not mistatken, if they win those games, it's over for minni

i'd love to minni miss the playoffs

I agree. I also think it's a bit too late for TWolves. They still have a chance of making the 8th seed, but just a bit too late. They should have turn on since McHale was the coach. But they didn't. I think Grizz is trying their best to hold that 8th seed. They're still 2? games ahead of Wolves and even though they have a tougher schedule ahead, Heats won't have Shaq, Spurs don't have Tim, and I think they can compete with the Mavs since those games are bigger for them than the Mavs. The pressure is still on the Wolves, IMO.

I think they can, but won't.

It would have been very good for mini had they just missed the playoffs entrely and played bad all year. They might have been able to pull a NY 84 or SA 97

memphis also owns the tie-breaker....... if someone didnt mention it already

IF the t-wolves make the playoffs, they will make it to western conference finals. they will beat the suns in first round, and they will beat us in the second if we end up holding on to the 5 seed. hate to say it but kings cannot beat minnesota.:(

are you joking....wolves will need a miracle just to make the playoffs. spurs aren't that good without Duncan. They got beat twice by Memphis with Duncan in there already. I don't think Memphis could do any worse......they do have a tough schedule, but 3 of those games are a little easier considering no Shaq, no Duncan in 3 any of them. Odds are it'll be Mavs at the 4, Kings at the 5, Houston or Denver 6 and 7 and Memphis 8, and Minne out by a hair.

It's going to be a big game for the Wolves this Friday vs Nuggets!
Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Timberwolves have what every NBA team wants with less than two weeks left in the regular season -- momentum.

The problem is, it might not be enough for them to make the playoffs.

With seven games remaining on their schedule, the Timberwolves (40-35) trail eighth-place Memphis in the Western Conference standings by 2½ games. It's actually a 3½-game deficit, since the Grizzlies (42-32) won the season series and would hold a head-to-head tiebreaker.

Streaking Denver is in seventh place, 3½ games ahead. And guess what? The Nuggets (43-31) visit Target Center on Friday night.

"You do it like Game 7," said forward Wally Szczerbiak. "We have to win, because if we lose that then we're right behind the 8-ball. In trouble. We're going to have to play it like it's our last game ... an elimination game."

By winning, the Wolves clinch a tiebreaker with Denver by virtue of winning the season series. But that's about all a victory can bring, other than further proof they're playing well.

If Memphis beats Miami on Friday, Minnesota would still be three games back of both the Nuggets and Grizzlies in the loss column with just six games to play themselves.

If the Timberwolves win out, they finish 47-35. To qualify for the postseason with that record, they need either Denver or Memphis to go 4-4 or worse.

We completely agree here...I would love to see the pups tire out a top seed, and lower their draft position in the process.

Unless minny has a total relapse, I think they're gonna make it. This reminds me of the first time minny had gotten a top seed but the (shaqless)lakers ended up with the 8th seed. and they were still eliminated in the first round. maybe this is history repeating, but in their favor this time.LOL

Suns fans are cocky...just like their team is...they'll never admit to that but really they should be scared either way...if Memphis holds on to the 8th spot they have a great chance to upset the Suns..ever seen these two teams battle....?? WHOA! The series is tied 2-2 but PO that all goes out the window...Im hoping to see Memphis stay so they can play the Suns that for me anyway will probably be the series the most fun to watch...

Do you realize the Wolves have to make up 4 games with 7 games to go. Do any of your realize how that is almost impossible. If Denver wins tonight and the Grizzles beat the Heat (without Shaq), Minne is almost out of any chance of making it. The Year you are referring to is when Minne got the 4th seed (there first time with HCA in a series) and the Lakers got the 5th seed. Minne has only been the top seed once and that was last year and again they got eliminated by the Lakers in the WCF. Lakers were not Shaqless either.

Memphis has a tough schedule but 4 of those teams have SIGNIFICANT injury problems. Howard is done for the season with Houston, Duncan is of course out with the Spurs (I believe the Grizzles are the only undefeated team versus the Spurs all year long and that was WITH DUNCAN), and the Heat WITHOUT Shaq. Minne has an easy schedule but they also have to win 1 more game than the Grizzles (Grizz have the tie breaker). Memphis has 8 games left that means this needs to happen for the Wolves to get in.

Wolves win 7 Grizzles win at most 3.
Wolves win 6 Grizzles win at most 2.
Wolves win 5 Grizzles win at most 1.
Wolves win 4 Grizzles lose the rest.

Do any of these really seem that rationale. If the Grizzles win 5 games, Minne is mathematically knocked out. They do have a favorable schedule, but 2 of those games will be tough, Golden State and Denver who are easily the two HOTTEST teams in the league. If Duncan comes back the last week (this goes for Memphis as well) the Spurs could also show up.

Memphis has a difficult schedule and looked retardedly difficult a month ago.

Miami - W without Shaq
Charlott- W cause it's Charlotte
Dallas - L - Memphis is horrible versus Dallas
@ Houston - W/L - Houston is struggling without Howard, 7-6 since his departure
@ Denver - L - Denver is "so hot right now"
@ SA - W - Win probally with or without Duncan
SA - W
Dallas - W/L - Dallas will be playing for nothing so Dirk and company could sit out.

Let's say Memphis wins 5 games, Minne is definitely out....Who cares about Minne anyway.

I somehow doubt that, the wolves match-up terrible against the suns. The Suns would simply outrun the wolves into the ground. Amare has always played KG tough and the wolves old guys spree and cassell would have nightmares guarding nash and johnson

don't you remember when the suns were up by 40 points in minny a few months back...I will be surprised if wolves win a game if the two teams faced each other.

I agree that would be a really fun series to watch but not having any go to guy's will hurt the grizzles. They may win 1 or 2 but they wouldn't win that series. The Suns record in close games is excellent. The Grizzles on the other hand is the other way around.

there will no upsets in round one in the west.

if Lewis isn't 100% and Vlad isn't back for you guys, I wouldn't be so confident in that statement Ray. yes your bench is good but there are some players who are definitely irreplaceable.

To be honest If we face Denver, losing to them to me wouldn't really be an upset. Most others around the NBA would agree.

on paper its considered an upset..............

If the Sonics faced Denver and Denver did beat the Sonics it WOULD be considered an upset...I know I would think was an upset...and i agree with Fillmoe...its most definetly an upset on paper

In another thread i remember someone saying that the spurs been having problems with Memphis during the regular season, but never in the playoffs. If i recall.. memphis got blown out in the first round last year. i think?

Yep, Grizz got swept by Spurs last season in the playoffs.
