The Sacramento Kings retired the #6 to honor their 6thman.....the fans. So, Sacramento Kings jersey #6 hangs from the rafters of ARCO Arena.
It was announced on Monarchs Talk tonight (KHTK 1140) that the Sacramento Monarchs #6 will be retired to honor Ruthie Bolton. Ruthie's #6 jersey will be raised to the rafters of ARCO Arena during halftime of the Aug 20th game against the Seattle Storm. Ruthie was the original Monarch and is very deserving of this honor.
FYI for those of you who do not follow the women's game, the Monarchs have already clinched a playoff berth with 7 games remaining to be played in the regular season. They currently hold a 5 game lead in the Western Conference. They are now working hard to get homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs. Only the Connecticut Sun in the Eastern Conference hold a better record (by 1 game).
Kings fans, if you are basketball starved during TDOS, consider coming out to watch the Monarchs play at ARCO. They lead the league (or are in 2nd place) in almost every defensive category. That is definitely not something we are used to here in Sacramento.
BTW - playoff tickets for the first round of the playoffs go on sale this Saturday. Check Ticketmaster or the ARCO Arena box office for details.
P.S. I have placed this info here in the main forum as a courtesy for those members who do not normally visit the Monarchs forum. If you are not interested in the women's game, please move on and ignore this thread. Please do not make disparaging remarks about the Monarchs or the WNBA.
