[TV Alert]Women's College Basketball 12/27 thru 1/6

First of all, happy holidays to all and a very happy new year.

Second of all, while the college teams alternate between winter break and finals - bit of a spotty schedule this week for the most part conference play begins. I'm out of town so I don't have the local channel conversions/availability of the upcoming schedule. I'll point you to a former Sacramentan's site for a much more comprehensive schedule.
Just do the time conversion for your time zone

Wanted to highlight some games....
  • Dec 28th: Old Dominion @ Kentucky - will we get a chance to see our resident posting ODU team managers? And will we be able to tell them apart? ;) CSN
  • Dawn Staley and her Temple Owls meet another legend C Vivian Stringer and her Rutgers team at the RAC on Dec 30th. on ESPNU
  • Tennessee Lady Vols continue their roady with a trip through the Big East, no UConn but plenty of DePaul (January 2nd) ESPNU and Notre Dame (Jan 5th). The Notre Dame game is the 2nd game of an annual CBS double-header.
  • Speaking of UConn, they're back on national TV with a game against Purdue on Jan 6th on CBS
  • Golden Bears and Bruins meet as Cal and UCLA hookup in Westwood on Jan 6th to open the Pac-10 conference TV package. Cal's big 3 is nearly back at full strength and should be poised to march towards the first of two meetings with nearly minted #2 team in the country Stanford later in January.

Also, if you get a chance to check out some Ohio State women's basketball games on this schedule, more of this fabulous class of freshmen....Jantel Lavender...take a peek at this young post. As highly decorated as Jessica Davenport was in her career there, they aren't missing a beat with Lavender in the paint.

With the baby Bruins' upset of Stanford last night and Cal's struggle to get out of the Galen Center with a win, tomorrow's televised game between Cal and UCLA takes on new and interesting meaning.....

Reminder, Tennessee is on CBS later today and UConn is on tomorrow morning. And plenty of other good match ups in between...

Wooo, this weekend was CLEARLY "Beat The Crap Out of Your Opponent" weekend....or..."Narrowly Beat Your Conference Foe" weekend.

George Washington spanks Brown 98-22, Maryland essentially does the same to Clemson 110-46, Middle Tennessee State smacked Denver 95-55, Pitt beating DePaul 97-58. And luckily for nationally televised games(the score is not indicative of how lopsided either of these games were) the Tennessee dismissal of Notre Dame 87-65 and the mother of all surgical demolitions UConn over Purdue 100-50

Then you have Cal eeking out of Pauley today 73-70 over the pesky baby Bruins, Stanford going 0-fer Los Angeles 73-72 against USC today, and Boston College topping NC State 60-59 among others.....

Bring on conference play baby!

I'll speak for myself...but I only was able to see a portion of the first half...where y'all were going back and forth with Kentucky and they didn't have any camera shots that would work.

How about, for the next game ODU has that we will likely be able to see out here, you two give us here on KingsFans.com a little non-chalant signal-like say the Chelsea Newton ear tug when there is a camera in your huddle as you're handing T.J. a cup of water and coach Larry a fresh towel or something? ;)

Congratulations btw on Old Dominon's return to the national rankings! 'Bout Time! We'll be keeping an eye too to make sure you keep your CAA title streak alive! Go Monarchs! :)

Wait a minute... did this really happen?

1) Why does college basketball have a rule where a team can be permitted to field less than five players?

2) How bad do you have to suck to be playing five-on-four for the last minute and a half of regulation and the first overtime and still be taken to double overtime?
