Jobs for Women

Well, I figured since it is so darned hard for women to get coaching jobs in the WNBA, I might as well support someone going for the BIG job!

;)

THE job ... for a woman ... ???

I do think it would shake things up to have a female President ... and that things could use a good shake up at this point in time ... Nicole Powell gives a very coherent and insightful interview, I'd vote for her ...

No disrepect, but the last time I checked, there are currently five female head coaches in the WNBA (Monarchs, Atlanta, Houston, New York, Indiana) and more than double that amount as assistant coaches.

Is it THAT hard for women to get coaching jobs in the league?

IIRC, Nicole hosted a fundraising party or a house party for Steve Westly's campaign for the Democratic Party nomination for Governor back in 2006.

Westly lost the primary race to Phil Angelides, who then lost in the general election to Ah-nold.

Women Coaches

StevenHW--your kidding, right? When there is even 1 woman assistant in the NBA, then we can talk. In the meantime, having ONLY 5 women coaches in the WNBA is a joke.

5 head coachs out of 14 is kinda of sorry and should be better in the WNBA however; the trend of Assistants getting HC nods is a very promising trend.

You know, I do get your point about equity MsWeed. However I really see no need for women coaching in the NBA as a sign of parity. First because I think there is plenty of work on the Women's side of basketball to be done.
Rather seeing Women's Coaches have the Pay equity is much more reflective of Women making progress.

While Pat Summitt is crossed the 7 figure mark in terms of salary, her pay is comparable to a middle level coaching job on the Men's side. I will have to check the Numbers to be absolutely certain. But I believe that to be true.

So it is just my opinion, I don't think having a woman in the NBA coaching ranks signals a break in the Gender glass ceiling. Cause that would imply that the best Coaches are in the NBA. The best salaries, absolutely but The MeNBA is still very much a Old Boys Network. Retred after Retred.

Unfortunately it is very much a cultral break thru that needs to unfold. When Society sees the value of women (In this case in sports) and a willingness to have these women compensated caparable to their male counterparts.

As for Hillary, Still undecided. But I think she will make a fine President. And it is not because she is a woman. But because she really has been grooming herself, and preparing for this opportunity.
But again it is just my 2 cents...

I Agree

I also don't see that the NBA should be any sort of a milestone for women. I just was sort of poking at StevenHW on his post that 5 women in the WNBA is OK.

The WNBA has been a problem from the get go. I am most concerned about the fact that jobs in Women's Basketball given to men is on the rise in the College game. It will be hard to get to pay equity when the amount of women coaches continues to decline.

As for Hillary, I am in synch with most of her views and think that her experience makes a huge difference. If you read her book, you will be amazed at some of the things she has done in her life, including so much that she did as First Lady.
