Trade down idea: #7 to Utah for #14 and #21

The premise is simple: Kings trade the #7 pick to Utah for #14 and #21.

Why for the Jazz? I was just reading up on Carter-Williams and saw an interesting note in a scouting report--"Ideally, he would wind up on an NBA team built like Syracuse, with athletic big men who can run the floor and dead-eye shooters who can space it." To me, that sounds like the Jazz. However, I could also see the Pistons at #8 (who'd like the combo with Knight and the athletic Drummond) or the Mavs (who DX currently has picking MCW at #13) nabbing him first. So, the Jazz finally make a move for their point guard of the future to pair with Favors, Hayward, Kanter, and Burks.

Why for the Kings? The Kings are in somewhat of an odd spot at #7. None of the players (assuming Noel, Porter, and Oladipo are off the board) are can't miss or an ideal fit. If the Kings are going to roll the dice on a player who has significant flaws, why not roll the dice twice? This allows them to take a gamble on two of the intriguing mid-round guys. Take your pick--Adams, Schroeder, Adetokunbo, Gobert, Dieng, Franklin, Nogueira, etc. I think I'd rather have two out of that group than one of Burke, MCW, McCollum, Zeller, etc.

Yep, I've been saying the same thing. I think the #7 pick is where teams will try and move up to steal a player.

I read the Jazz like Zeller, so that would definitely be a possibility, or if Burke or MCW is their target. If a team thinks Detroit will pick MCW at 8, then the'll try and get the Kings pick.

Definitely some opportunities at this pick. I'd be fine with moving back in the 11-19 range and taking Franklin, Pope, or Karasev. Dieng would be nice too.

don't the Jazz have a rather profound lack of shooters, though? Hayward is alright, but he doesn't really shoot a ton and outside of him, they don't actually have much of a team right now. there's six players on their payroll, so they might actually be interested in keeping more players around.

or just trade Jimmer for the #21 and take Bullock, Dieng, or another solid roleplayer in that range.

I don't think Adams is going to be there at #14

I can't imagine them making that trade in a draft like this. Two middle firsts are worth much more than the 7th IMO, there isn't that big of a difference in talent between 7 and 14.

The only way it happens is if the Jazz (or Hawks) absolutely fall in love with a prospect that they know won't be there when they pick. Burke might be that guy for some. Maye Bennett or Len if they slip. MCW possibly.

Teams do start getting attached to certain guys so it is possible but I'd agree its unlikely.

I don't know, I'm not sure that's correct. I'd say there about ten players in this draft and things thin out pretty severely after that. At #7 we would presumably get our choice between Burke/McCollum/Zeller/Mohammed (and Carter-Williams if you like that sort of thing). At #14 + #21 we'd probably be looking at a choice between Schroder/Gobert (#14) and Karasev at #21 if he falls that far. I could be wrong, but I think keeping the #7 has more value.

This would be a funny trade. We could draft Gobert and that Adetekumbo guy. If both of them panned out, we'd be the best team in the NBA really fast. xD Of course, there's probably only a 1% chance that they do pan out.

I would be staggered if we trade #7. All the indications are that we are keeping the pick and selecting the best player regardless of position he plays which pretty much means another guard coming up.
