The What-If game.
inspired by bill simmons new book, "the book of basketball"
(really great book if you wanna know the nba in depth, currently going to school as a journalism major, really inspired me)

if you were petrie n you could go back in time, what would you have done differently in the past decade?

If i was petrie in the past decade i would,
(i would be the best 8 year old gm out there)

1. trade cwebb for an expiring and a 1st round pick(even if its a late one, better than kenny)
2. never lose gwallace to the expansion draft
3. never let hedo walk out of town
4. never traded for artest
5. never traded bibby
6. drafting david lee or jason maxielle instead of frisco
7. drafting rondo instead of douby

if we never lost our young core during the webber era, we'd be killing it in the west right now.
we would have
bibby, hedo, peja, gwallace, maxiell or david lee, kmart
granted if we were good we'd never have thompson, tyreke and hawes.

after shielding yourself, prepare for conversation. all those points are great, but not all are/were attainable at the time they happened. They were all broken down and examined at some point in this thread - the Wallace instance. WHen he was here he did not show enough to warrant such high status. Sort of like Greene is right now - full of potential. You would have to have a crystal ball in order to get those things rights.

for me... i'd go back to last week's lottery numbers. or back in time when Dan Snyder was purchasing the 'Skins and punch him in the balls yelling "You know why!!!"

...given these parameters and hindsight, I would have drafted David Lee.

hedo didnt walk, he was traded for miller... though this has been done before we all know how this thread will end.

i wouldve drafted david lee... we had thomas as our starting pf and we drafted martin the year before, it wouldve been nice to have another big... i wasnt thrilled about drafting garcia but he isnt that bad, i just wish we didnt give him that contract. lee and nate will be free agents this offseason, we are stuck with garcia....

everything else is kinda duh....

webber, duh... who would do that trade again? we wouldve beaten the sonics that year in the playoffs.
bibby, duh... if we had kept him we wouldnt have signed beno to a 5yr deal...
douby, duh... we couldve had rondo, farmar or sergio...
losing wallace, duh... cant say what we would or wouldnt have done after that but duh... keep him.
trading for artest, if the webber trade had still gone down no. if webber had stayed, yes.. a lineup of bibby/bonzi(or martin)/artest/webber/miller wouldve been nice back in 2006. not to mention the capspace we wouldve already had...
