The sky is not falling

Hall of Famer
at 7-13 the Kings record isn't as good as most of us thought it would be at this point. A few factors go into that record. Some bigger than others. Let's take a look at them.

1. Absent Demarcus Cousins. The Kings have only lost 4 games with Demarcus playing the full game. One of those the debacle atop Mt. Mexico. Of the 10 games where we didn't have a full game Demarcus we are 1-9 (he missed half the second clippers game and the 4th quarter of Charolette). Of those nine loses I believe we could have won 4 with Demarcus. Putting us at 11-9.

2. This is basically a new team. With a new very dominant point guard, a position that changes everything on the team. Early on had some bad turnover problems and lack of chemistry. I notice the chemistry getting better each night and subsequently the turnovers are coming down.

3. Substitution rotations hasn't been to many fans liking and again this could go back to the new team coming together. The coach still has to figure out how it works together. I give Karl a lot of grief but, he has had an injured Demarcus, sick Rudy, injured collison, sick casspi, and now an injured WCS all in the first 20 games. That's tuff to deal with when you are really still feeling out what you have exactly.

4. Defense. I could go on and on singling out players but this could easily come back to sub patterns and players being out of position, missing players and of course lack of chemistry (yes it's needed on defense as well).

In closing I believe if we played these same 20 games at the end of the year fully healthy the record would be more like 13-7 or 14-6. We will be in the hunt come March and April. Just stay healthy guys

It's not going to get to the end of the season with this roster.

There's too much pressure.

The staff and/or roster will be changed before it gets to there, unless they start playing much better and more consistently and start winning.... VERY SOON.

There's only one loss like in Mexico City left before the team implodes I predict.

Well if that's the case it's another knee jerk reaction just like last year. I mean without Demarcus we are crap just like last season. Malone paid the price for a sick cousins. Cleveland without Lebron 2-10 last year. Look at OKC without Durant. Just hard to penalize a team when the best player is out. it helped San Antonio years ago actually. No David Robinson for a full season. The get Tim Duncan because they sucked so bad. Bulls with no Jordan. Lakers with no Kobe.

Don't expect Cousins to play a really high percentage of games for the duration of this season. I'd be really surprised if it happened. He has not recovered from the injuries and is out there trying to get healthy on the fly.

The odds are really stacked against for a playoff push later in the season. Lets hope it happens,....would make things interesting in a positive way, for a change

Just went outside to check and no sky is not falling. Good news! Now some unpleasant news...

Seems there's a strange odor in the air that started last night during Mexico City game and the big stink still lingering. Hopefully an airing out, return to something more pleasant starts tomorrow in Houston - or maybe only hope will be another Kings team player meeting;) Houston beat Dallas tonight in Big D 100-96 and will be on back-to-back on their court as Kings come calling. Houston favored -2.5 w/ 219 o/o.

We need to turn around our defense soon. I was happy with our D versus the Mavs; our perimeter players were actually playing tighter defense on their guards for a change. Not giving up handfuls of open threes as usual.

I read a post that this weird zone defense's focus is to force opposing teams to shoot from the perimeter (3 point line included and that's the key). So really? That's giving almost every team exactly what they want. Guards look forward to stuffing the stat sheets when they play the Kings, and it has been that way for years. It needs to stop if we are to enjoy any sustained success.

Look, most of us fans are impatient. It was bound to happen...we all want to win now and it just doesn't happen that way. What I mostly ask for is some defense and effort, the offense will come along when those things align.

We have been waiting a very long time for this team to merely compete. I would say Kings fans have been very patient.

Yeah maybe this season we've been on edge but that's probably due to the fact that this is the most complete team we've had in years (which isn't saying much I guess). The effort on defense is inexcusable.

I get it that Rome wasn't built in a day, I'm just so damn tired of getting lapped by every other team in the rebuild process year in and year out.

The problem is, we've never actually had a rebuild year since Webber left. When did we build up our assets and trade away our veteran players? Seems like everytime we did, it was simply just to save money.

With so many new players on this team and new coaches coming in and out it seems every off season or two...it's hard to gain any stability anyway. One thing I do want to see though, effort and heart. You can't teach those things and players either have it or they don't. At this time, we have players that are coasting at times and don't give it their all...all the time IMO.

Rudy is the biggest offender IMO.
He has length and is quick enough to be an effective defender. Not great but serviceable. I wish he'd realize that scoring 20 ppg doesn't mean **** if you're giving up that and more on the other end of the court.

It's not a coincidence that teams that Rudy leaves get better. It's something about his laid back vibe and demeanor that does not translate on the court very well.

Is there any trade value there at all?

Trade Rudy and you lose any chance of Rondo staying. And, by extension, you lose Rondo and you've got a very unhappy franchise player. If none of that matters to you, fine. But if you believe, as I do, that the future of the Kings hinges on DMC/Rondo, then you don't just cavalierly toss Rudy out the door.

You're probably right with Rondo leaving. I do agree that the DMC/Rondo combo could become something very special. I just wish we could solidify our starting SG spot. If we had a legitimate starting SG, I'm sure the Rudy issue would be almost nonexistent. Sucks we have almost no trade chips.

Is there a stat that tracks how many uncontested shots a team gives up per game. This team has to be the worst in the league at that.
