Sorry, but I can't bring myself to get into "feel good mode" over this... Maybe it's because Whisenant didn't actually come out and say that he wanted to stay with the Monarchs; he was playing both sides of the fence, and that rubs me the wrong way... It's like that Senator who ran for vice-president a few years ago, but didn't give up his seat in the Senate, in case he didn't get elected vice-president. It was pusillanimous, in my book, just like I now feel that Whisenant is pusillanimous for hedging his bets.

I don't think that he is committed to the Monarchs in his heart; in fact, I'm sure that he's not, because if he was, he would have come out and thanked the Maloofs for their generous consideration but respectfully declined, because he was committed to leading the Monarchs to another Championship. And he wouldn't have ****ing dicked the dog in doing it, either; he would have done it on the first day that the Maloofs told him they were interested... He's not still the coach of the Monarchs because he wanted to be, or because this is where is heart is; he's still the coach of the Monarchs because his power play to become the head coach of the Kings fell through.

I want Whisenant here because he *wants* to be here, not because he couldn't get a "better" deal, which is, unfortunately, the case. And that pisses me off beyond words.

I understand your point, and it is a valid one, but let's move on. It will take a while for things to settle down with the players too. I am sure they are feelings a bit betrayed too.

Focus on beating the Silver Stars tonight! They have really improved and it will not be like Wednesday's game!

I understand. But he did come out in the last couple of days and say he loved the Monarchs and the WNBA. Whether that was to save face, we will never know. But what i do know is that He is a championship coach and the coach of the Year. And at least for 2006, the Monarchs are in tact and should be in position to defend their crown.

He can only answer if he wants to be here or not. I can't be mad at a person for going after a position that pays you millions of dollars to coach a child's game.

Back to Whiz... I still feel some amount of frustration with the situation. But my resentment lies more with the ownership. They were the ones ready to sacrifice the Monarchs. They offered Whiz the position when they never should have. Not becuase he's not a good coach or wouldn't have done good things for them... but because he already has a job. A job that he happens to be pretty damn good at.

They were willing to sacrifice everything the Monarchs had going for them because they're so desperate for their Kings to win. I still think it's incredibly insulting and won't soon forget. I'm sure they will soon be back to cheering on the sidelines like they care (only when tv cameras are present of course).

I'm not too mad at Whiz. He wasn't the one chasing the job down, but he did accept their offer and took the interview. I'm a little miffed that he didn't just shoot them down, but I can't really blame him either.

I'm in the middle on this one...but I am pleased he's staying. For our players & fans. I say move on & enjoy this Championship run 2006. We owe it to the team to be supportive & positive.
Coach Whiz should be honored to be considered for a NBA job. I'm sure he talked to the players in private during this whole process. I'm in his corner, now that I know he's staying!

Great Day for the Sac organization

As a season ticket holder of the Warriors(& Monarchs), who sits 9 rows from the GS floor, I have plenty of insights on E Muss. I still have not got over Mullin firing him and putting a guy with no NBA experience in his place.(Does that concern sound familiar?) You guys will love E Muss. He was a little too intense for guys like Dunleavey. They hated him, but hopeful guys like Artest and Bibby can handle his intense moments.

At any rate, I don't really care. All I care about is that the Monarchs are back on the track and ready to defend their championship. I am not worried about Whiz getting rejected. He does not need the NBA money anyway. (I would not be surprised if he is worth many times over what Muss is worth right now.) Who needs the money and pressure when you can have women like the Monarchs? And Whiz gets all the credit for building that team. Go Monarchs. And I am going to dread having Montgomery pitted against E Muss 4 times a year.

i agree with Slim, but i'm just glad this drama is over and the M's can get back focused on the season at hand. we lost a close one tonight, but they just gotta put that outta thier minds and move forward as quickly as possible.

I think Whiz has more integrity than he's being given credit for having. Of course he's not still here because he backed out of consideration. He actually I though had been honest about it. But the fact of the matter is he, unlike Michael Cooper, decided to stay when someone else got the job - unlike Michael Cooper, he actually was considered for the NBA vacancy for his ownership group. I can't begrudge him that.

I'm with MamaB on this one, we're now headed back to our regularly scheduled season and that pretty much is all that matters at this point.

And Yeah Chantelle is certainly one of my favorite ex-Monarchs.

But MBF has expressed the importance of Showing the Love to #8. She needs our support. And she will ge there.

Call me pessimistic but maybe it's just not our year. We shouldn't have lost two games at home already. Ticha went from being amazing in the Seattle game to a total nonfactor, just as we all feared.

However, I think you could say that last night's game proved how good our reserves are. Love this bench.

I think you're calling it a little early. The Monarchs had plenty of games like this last season. For a while there it was their calling card: get in a deep hole, claw your way back, win, rinse and repeat. They almost did it last night, they just couldn't hit that three pointer for the tie. I'm not worried yet.

As far as Ticha goes, a lot of the lack of scoring had to do with being guarded by PeeWee instead of Bird. I thought PeeWee did a good job of pressuring Ticha end to end. A lot of Ticha's scoring in the game against Seattle was her recognition that Sue Bird couldn't guard her to save her life. But she took the right shots when they were there, and she got the ball to her teammates in scoring positions--the shots just didn't fall. As a whole, the team shot pretty badly last night. Hopefully it's not something we need to worry about being a chronic problem.

I thought that the bench was great in the big comeback last night. Dorrell especially, she continues to impress me. I'm wondering when Bekkah is going to come out of her funk, she missed some easy shots last night. And right now I think we really need her to be on top of her game because Yo needs to take it easy. Erin continues to impress me too, she's not putting up monster numbers, but she is always a difference-maker.

From the SacBee article today, it doesn't sound like Whiz will be with the team in Phoenix--so they really need to focus. With the way Phoenix plays, everyone has to contribute because it will be a marathon from start to finish.

That's funny, because I think that many of us are giving him credit for more integrity than he deserves. Everything that I've been privileged to learn about Whisenant in the last nine months supports the opinion that Whisesnant is exactly the sort of treacherous, deceitful charlatan that I've been accusing him of being, and I'm not willing to give him the benefit of the doubt just because he's coaching the Monarchs.

That might not be a big deal to you, but it's a big deal to me; I'm reminded of when the Lakers were courting Mike Krzyzewski, and he held a press conference to announce that he was staying at Duke. And granted, a press conference may have been a little extreme in Whisenant's case, but come on... he must have been interviewed at least a half-dozen times since this whole story broke; he could have told at least one reporter that he would rather stay with the Monarchs, but he didn't do it.

Maybe I'm asking too much, but I want the head coach of a Championship team to say, in no uncertain terms, that he's not looking for a "better" deal. That he's happy with the job he has, and that he doesn't want to leave. And I want him to be unambiguous about it.

But the fact of the matter is he, unlike Michael Cooper, decided to stay when someone else got the job...

I have a hard time using someone else's foibles to try and make someone else look less tainted... I'm reminded of a Lewis Black anecdote that I relayed to Slugking in chat during the game last night: "If you're trying to nail someone who's an *******, you don't hire a bigger *******. Because the bigger ******* makes the ******* look like he's just a rectum."

Pointing out how big a sleaze Michael Cooper is does not make Whisenant virtuous... it merely makes him look slightly less sleazy by comparison.

Don't worry about it Mr. Slim. We are a very loyal bunch around here. We can't help but love the guy who helped get our players to their first championship. That means we bow to emotion. Not a bad thing as we get to celebrate being the fans of the defending Champs. And, we intend to celebrate all season.

Whiz is remaining as our coach and GM. For most of us, that's a very good thing. So, when his character is maligned it feels like bashing. Maybe it is time for all of us to let it go and concentrate on our TEAM now. Let's enjoy our position as defending Champs.

So it's ok to have expectation that he comport himself like Coach K but it's not ok to say that he did not comport himself like Cooper. A press conference would have been pretention and quite frankly stupid. What the guy said, is pretty much what he said when he came here as Asst GM. The Maloofs called me and offered me an opportunity that I'm honored to have and he took it. Not much different that the Kings job. Except, as Whisenant had said, he had not been offered it. So, in my book, he's not an******* to begin with. I actually wasn't calling Cooper one either, just pointing out if he (Whisenant) really didn't want to be here, he could have walked too.


I'm not bowing to emotion or a championship hangover, I liked the guy the first day he set foot in Sacramento to associate himself with the Monarchs. I don't agree with Slim's perspective or any of the other perspectives expressed about Whisenant that called him a snake, weasle or any other derogatory animalistic reference, like Whisenant made the Maloof family consider him or that he hijacked the job from Adelman - Adelman was gone a long time ago.

I don't bow at his altar nor do I think that anybody else who really hoped that now that Whis is not moving offices across the practice facility that he would no longer be chastised for the Maloofs dumping Adelman.

Yeah, I agree it's too early to call. I also agree that they are following their script - a script they rolled out early and often in the preseason as well. What I also think they need to figure out, is how to effectively take a punch in that target they have on their backs. The loss last night was similar to the loss against Houston except they never figured out against Houston how to rally. They left at least 10 points on the table by missing wide open uncontested or barely contested layups.

Absolutely agree, earth to Brunson...earth to Brunson. The rebounding thing, she has down. She needs to figure out how to put the other pieces back together like she did last season.

Luv13....Thanks for offering a cooling period on #8. I think she's going to come around.... She's someone I would compare with Newton - occasional offense but more willing to pass up shots. I haven't figured out why she's so tentative in this offense - but I often wondered that about Newton too. Then again, it dawned on me that her initials are K.S. and we've not had good luck with highly touted small forwards who wore some shade of red and white in college who shared that monogram. I'm trying to push that thought back out of my head and continue my optimism about her upside.

Anyone catch the Sparks/Liberty game on Sat.? I worked so I missed it.

I read & watched some clips of the game. Sounds like it went to overtime by a late three similar to our game on Fri. They made it ,we missed. That's basketball. We have a long way to go and with the West being so strong again this season, anything can happen. Our Monarchs will be fine. Way too early to give up. One thing for sure we will have more losses than last season, but so will the other West teams!

Catherine Kraayveld (of all people) hit the three to send it to OT. I want to say they had more than one shot at it to and she was the only person open on the wing. That was pretty much the only excitement in that game. I was tired anyway, but I struggled to stay awake watching it. That had to be one of the worst games for national television they've had in a while. Both teams struggled to score. Besides that, it was very surreal looking at the rotations for LA...when Leslie fouled out in OT, the lineups they played were unrecognizable. Very weird.
