Stern says Kings had discusion on move to So Cal

I was born and raised in SacTown and i hate to see my boys leave but what do you expect. They've been patient and the city is broke, people are broke. And as a result....Anaheim Kings??!!

The title of that article is VERY misleading. It leads us to believe that the Kings just announced they are moving. When I saw the caption, "King Size Move to SoCal," my heart started pounding. When I read the article and read that it was just talk about a possible move, I was mad. Shame on KCRA for misleading us like that. Also, it did not say that they will have more discussions with Anaheim, contrary to what Section 101 said. Stern is quoted in the article as saying, "I am not aware of the current status of any negotiations that the Kings are engaged in; I do know, because I read in the newspapers, that they have -- they are supposed to have had discussions with Orange County, and they have," It doesn't say those talks are still going on.

Yeah after reading the article, I got the impression that Stern simply read an article about the move.

They changed it.

Anaheim sure looks like most likely destination at this point. I know there's question of having 3 teams in LA market but I bet "Anaheim Kings of the NBA" could also at some point schedule some of their games in Las Vegas if they ever get a new arena built to league standards. I think what angers me most is fact of Sac being such a downer of a place in this type city competition - going back decades. For years the Kings could never get NBA interested in hosting its All-Star game here not because of Arco Arena per se but because the city had not enough first rate hotel space. All during 80s and much of 90s NBA teams arriving in town stayed at the Red Lion Inn (now DoubleTree) as one of the few quality hotels around. Finally, a downtown hotel boom overcame that hurdle but by then arena was cumbling and a joke compared to elsewhere around the league. I want to be an optomist and I am one by nature. But living in Sac (and visiting/living in many other dynamic cities) and seeing decades of the local useless political snail crawl leaves me with virtually no hope - I'd say only about 10% chance Kings stick around this loser paradise.

I'm so tired of hearing about this crap. It's like a dark cloud hanging over all things Kings. It's hard to even get excited about the future of the team when it's uncertain if that future will even be in Sacramento. I hate to say it, but I'm getting to the point where if they're going to move, I wish they'd just file for relocation and get it over with already so we as fans can move on, as well as the team.

It's a bad sign that The Maloofs have decided to cut off all comments about the situation. If they were committed to staying, that doesn't seem like something they would do. If they knew they were going to give it another year or two in Sacramento to see what happens, why not announce that so fans know what's up rather than being left in the dark and having to worry that every day could be the day the dreaded news comes? The lack of any announcement like that strongly suggests to me that The Maloofs already pretty much know they’re moving but will withhold announcing it as long as possible so that they can squeeze as much money out of fans while they’re still here. It just doesn't look promising when even with the renewed arena effort, The Maloofs won’t commit to time frame.

It's like you're reading my mind!

From an inside source (unamed of course) the Maloofs are doing anything they can to get out of Sac due to Sacramento not stepping up to the plate with some form of an Arena. There are too many other areas willing to put up the money and support the franchise. With the many years now that have gone by with no results they are headed out, after all, it's a business and therefore this is a business decision.

Expect to hear this new in the next few days publicly.
