All it said was required was your MVP card. Did you try calling in? Maybe sneak in wrapped in my coat? I have one that has quite a flair...:)

Hehehe! Thanks, Carole. With the last minute notice, I just can't make it. I'm sure I could get in if I really wanted to, without having to hide under your coat. :p I do appreciate the offer though.

Can't make either...darn.
Oh well Carole can give us a full report!
I also heard from Ryan about a dinner with Yo & a suite viewing at a Kings game with Kara? What is up with these events & no emails to us? I'll try & get more info.

Yeah! Let me know. Sounds like a prize of some sort.

It sounds like they are segmenting these events to particular reps and/or sections of the arena and they might be doing it because the space is limited and they are planning multiple events, ala the section parties.

I'm not overly put off about the non-invite. At least not yet since I guess I'm banking on getting invited to something at some point. However, it might be REALLY nice on their part to let folks know that this is their plan when they send these invites out so they don't continue to create feelings of exclusion within the STH base or worse, feelings that reps or MSE in general are slow on the uptake in getting their act together notifying the entire base about something.

And...while they are at it, how about putting the community events up on the Monarchs website, or I dunno, maybe designating a rep or two to post them here. MS&E could find this site and assign someone to post here when they want to sell tickets. How about using this forum to let us know other stuff as well, it works. This could be one more mechanism to reach fans on a consistent basis. Just a thought to any lurking MS&E folks ;) .

Part of MBF's suggestion:

Some (if not all) community events are mentioned on the Monarchs' website.

However, my guess is that MSE does that only if it involves Monarchs player(s) and if it is "officially" sanctioned by them.

I remember two or three years ago when the Monarchs' website mentioned that Ticha and one of the Kings players would appear at a "Getta Cue!" fundraising event at a pool hall or nightclub, and then it included a disclaimer that it was officially sponsored by the fundraising organizers and NOT by MSE. It later turned out that the Monarchs were in the playoffs at the time, and the event coincided with a playoff game, so Ticha couldn't attend, but I digress.

Anyway, that instance was the only exception where the M's website mentioned an event in which MSE themselves were not officially involved.

As for putting up events notices here, it would be a great idea! :)

I thought the thread started about the Court of Dreams dedication was in relation to an event that appeared in a paper or somewhere, but didn't have details about it. Folks here dug around and found out where it was. I'm kinda curious as to why that is. If Ruthie, Yo and Kara are going, I'm pretty sure that's a MS&E related event.
If all the community events are on the website (I'm again talking all, not some, not most) then cool, I'm down with that. But it doesn't sound like they all are.

I just got an invite for Kara Lawson's exclusive MVP event next week, so this does appear to be related to particular reps.

You all guessed correctly. It is a section thing. Tonight was fun, the music was a little too loud (read - bring your ear muffs if you value your hearing) but the chocolate was good (for dipping strawberries and cake). We played musical chairs and danced some, like the chicken and YMCA and some other new stuff (new to me). Yo and Ruthie got out on the floor and took part also. Yo led a Conga line. Kecia won some sidewalk chalk for knowing which school Yo came from. The best prize was a T-shirt but to win it you had to know all 10 Players of the Decade! Oh, yeah, there were signed banners, and the little orange balls. It was a really fun time.

[snip]...Kecia won some sidewalk chalk for knowing which school Yo came from...

Did the sidewalk chalk had a drawing of Monty (the M's mascot) on the side? If so, I am guessing it was the same plastic carton of chalk that the Monarchs gave away before the Monarchs/NY Liberty game during their family day (Monty's "birthday") in July during a hot August afternoon game! If so, then apparently, they must have tried to give away more of it!

I still have my collection of that chalk still unused and its wrapper!
:)

Were they asking for the name of Ruthie's high-school, or just her college (which was Auburn University)?

I went as MamaB's guest since it was her section party last night. (Thank you again for the invite :))...Yo was spectacular entertainment and definitely worked the entire room. I ain't gonna lie, when she raced out to participate in what became a cut throat game of musical chairs, two words flashed into my mind: "freak injury" But Yo throws herself around in practice much harder so she definitely wasn't giving that a second thought.

Let me go back to the Conga line Carole mentioned that Yo lead. Yo circled the room picking people to join the line. MamaB tried very hard to disobey Yo's requests to join the conga line until Yo both pointed at her very emphatically and gave a stern "you better not still be sitting there when I come back the next time" look. ;)

Instead of raffling off prizes they handed them out if you could answer trivia questions about Yo, the team or the WNBA. Yes, it was the same chalk given away at the camp game this past season. Let me just say, reading the media guide has its benefits. :) I'm trying to remember why it is I had looked up Yo's high school name recently but let me say that nugget came in handy. So, I'd recommend studying up on the Yo and Kara trivia for future events just in case you need an autographed pennant, rubber ball, t-shirt or some sidewalk chalk. :D

I thought the evening was very well done and a lot of fun.

Sounds like you all had a great time. That's funny how Yo got MamaB. to join in, that must have been a sight to see!
Way to go MBF for brushing up on those triva questions.
:)
Well from the look of things, I'm assuming Yo is staying with the Monarchs for the 07 season. That makes me very happy.
Any talk of the 07 season or the new coach?

I'd assume Yo is staying for 2007. But she made it clear she wasn't going to answer that question all night from the start, so she pretty much said ask me anything but that 'cause she didn't know what she's going to do yet.

Nothing about the 2007 season or coach Boucek but a chance to win something if you could spell her last name.

I'd say the event was more about socializing than it was a Q&A, although you had an opportunity to chat with Yo as she walked around. I had asked if she was coming to the event with the coach on Sunday and she said no because she was out of town and they told her about it too late.

Actually, from what Yo said, you cannot assume yet that she will be here for the next season. She would not give a definite answer.
