AP - A cousin of Detroit Pistons forward Rasheed Wallace was killed and a police officer was wounded in a shootout authorities said occurred after an undercover drug buy.

Tyree Wallace, 22, was pronounced dead at Albert Einstein Medical Center. Sgt. Mike Mitchell, 41, was in stable condition Friday with a groin wound.

Pistons spokesman Matt Dobek confirmed that Tyree Wallace was Rasheed Wallace's first cousin. Dobek said it was unclear whether Wallace would play in Friday night's home game against the Golden State Warriors , but said he did not participate in the team's shootaround Friday morning.

On Thursday night, Mitchell was in an unmarked police car when an undercover officer bought drugs from Tyree Wallace before identifying himself, Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson said. [READ]http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/38409/20051223/wallace_cousin_shot_by_police/

this, dungy's son, richardsons bro....... weird stuff.......

At the risk of appearing callous (and maybe I am)......we are concerned about a young man who was selling drugs and pulled a gun on a police officer once he identified himself? Sorry, but my sympathy goes to the police officer who was injured by Wallace when he came to the aid of a fellow officer.

I know what you mean and I feel the same way, but it's always sad when a loved one dies.

No doubt, may3one. I am sure the Wallaces are feeling pain and loss. I am sorry for them. In fact, I feel badly for any family whose loved ones turn to crime and then the family must suffer their consequences.

I'm with you on this one.

I view anyone who holds a gun within sight of cops a Social Darwinism case (stupidity being naturally selected against). Cops absolutely unload on people who do it and the examples are plenty. I don't feel any worse than I would after reading about some idiot who died while surfing on the roof of his friend's van, Teen Wolf style.

6th and Gargamel, I'm right on board with you. I have zero sympathy for Wallace's cousin. He totally got what he deserved.

My heart goes out to the kid's family (because they have to deal with the fact that the kid is dead AND was a raging jackass) and the officer and his family.

I have sympathy for Wallace's family but that is it. He dug his own grave. Selling drugs and pulling a gun on a policeofficer? My father and brother and cousing are all police officers, so I am glad they took him down. Hello? If you are breaking the law and you pull a gun on a police officer, you better be ready for the consequences. He got what he deserved.
I am sorry for Sheed and the rest of the family for their loss and heartache, but you reep what you sew.
