I'm not a stats guy at all and I think some of you are.
What I am wondering is:
Has the recent proliferation in 3 point attempts resulted in a change in rebounding stats with guards rebounding at a higher average than previously (and perhaps a dropoff in rebounds by big men).
We still see 20 rebounds by a Drummond or Davis - but is there a stat kept on where on the court those rebounds were gathered and a correlation between "More treys = more rebounds by guards and Less treys = less rebounds by guards/more by bigs?
Because "Long shots bring long rebounds"
One example (VERY small sample size - 1 game):
http://www.espn.com/nba/playbyplay?gameId=400975789
People have been impressed by Buddy Hield's string of high rebound games (for a guard).
But in looking at the play by play from the recent game in Utah, I find that 4 of his 6 rebounds were off three point shots (27 feet, 25 feet, 25 feet, 27 feet), so, really, who else WOULD have gotten those rebounds (IF they went "long" - espn only gives the distance of the shot, not the rebound).
The other two were also off shots by guards (10 feet - Ingles, at the basket- Rubio).
Obviously if they were off shots by big men, they would be more impressive.
But are they less impressive because all guards are rebounding more because there are more long rebounds?
