Second Seed Clinched....

I believe, as I pull out my slide rule and abacus, and based on all the published reports....the Monarchs got an assist tonight from Charlotte. And by virtue of the Comets loss, the Monarchs have clinched the #2 seed in the West. The best Seattle can do is tie us, and that's not advisable since we hold the tiebreaker.

Seattle now leapfrogs over Houston for 3rd. Phoenix's hopes remain on life support, but there is a faint pulse. The Comets just need to win once more over the next two games to shut the door and grab 4th.

Congratulations! For a while it looked like we were hanging on just to grab a spot. As the pregame video montage proclaimed...the title defense is ON!

Hopefully Yo will get off restriction and get to play tomorrow and the Monarchs get back to the business at hand. Let's do this!!
(Man, we need a catchy slogan...)

Yes they have...I watched the Mercury demolish the Lynx. They looked awesome, Cappie hit 3 three's in a row & Taurasi was making some unbeleivable shots. Too bad for them if they can find no miracle to get them into the post season...they would be intresting.

At halftime they talked about the Monarchs clinching the 2nd seed. I've seen several times on our 1st home game ...one said 12:30 the other 3:30. Does anyone know for sure. I'm surprised we got the first game being out west, & Detroit the 2nd game.
Yes we will need to find that catchy slogan MBF!

That makes me wonder if anyone will vote Diana Taurasi for MVP this year. I believe she is leading the WNBA in Points Per Game average. And in last night's game, she scored her 758th point this season, which broke the old mark set by Katie Smith in 2001. But unless the Mercury can get in the playoffs --- technically, they are still in the race as of this writing, but it will take a freakish miracle for them to qualify at this point --- I doubt DT will get any votes at all.

I'm not suggesting that Taurasi should be named the MVP this season --- In fact, I think it will go Lisa Friggin' Leslie again --- but DT might get a vote or two thrown her way. But I don't think there has ever been a WNBA MVP awarded to a person from a non-playoff team.

Hey, how can you argue with Leslie's numbers? - I mean her numbers were insane at the beginning of the year w/o Holdsclaw. I think Taurasi will get consideration, I also think Catchings will get consideration and be a runner up again. Katie Douglas is making a strong case for herself to get consideration. I'm not sure Leslie is as much a slam dunk as she was earlier, but the race behind her may be enough to split the vote so that she receives more overall points.

We may not know the times for the game(s) at ARCO until Sunday.
