After seeing what has happened this season with the likes of Doug, Vlade, and Webber, I appreciate this city more and more with each passing day.
We might not be the prototypical sports town, but the connection that the players have here is more than just a player-city relationship. Take a look around this board, and you'll see a love that transcends what happens just on the court. Sure there are always going be knocks on us for having a small market team, but to me, even so I've never met any of the players- They almost seem like family.
When guys leave this team, I think the reality of sports sets in tenfold. Doug (from what I gather) is in a word- Depressed; Webb has already become a whipping post in Philly, and do you think that Vlade would trade that extra .5M/year to be be back in the arms of a city that loves him? Even so this team, like all sports teams is a constant work-in-progress, there is a certain passion that goes almost unparraled throughout the league when you consider our fan base.
Read Jon Barry's comments after the Mateen trade, or Pollard's after the Det-Indy brawl... It really makes me happy to be a part of what we're fostering here in Sacramento. We are a sports-town like no other... Who else could care about the Tony Delks; Vernon Maxwells; Hedo Turkoglus; or hell- even the Greg Ostertags of the world like we do?
While this season more than likely won't yeild that elusive championship, I'm really amped for this summer when Petrie can throw on the thinking-(mastermind)-cap and make a move for a special player, (or players) who will find out what it truly means to be a Sacramento King. I log on pretty much daily, but my posts are few and far between- But when I read the "I HATE fill-in-the-blank" threads here, I wish that others would take a step back and realize what we truly have right in front of us...
Because like the players I mentioned above- I really believe that you never really know what you have until it's gone.
Well, my corn dogs are ready, and I still have three hours of studying for marketing to go- So Kings fans, Relax, and enjoy what the rest of this season has to offer.
