[SAC/SASS]Pre-series discussion?

Stick on Becky Hammon like wet underwear!

I think little, but mighty, Becky Hammon is the engine that makes San Antonio go ... if the M's can play suffocating defense on her, all night, every night, they can win the series .. and vice versa. Denying her the ball is the perfect D in my opinion ...

I really wanna see Ticha be offensively aggressive, driving to the basket is excellent for her ... I don't want to hear the collective ARCO cringe when she passes up an open shot - thereby playing the perfect defense on herself ...

This could (potentially) be the last game of the season at ARCO, and thus the last time we ever see Yo play in person :( ... wow, that's heavy ... I am not gonna leave any cheering uncheered ... I'll be hoarse on the drive home ...

Keys to Winning Round 1 vs San Antonio

DEFEND THE 3 POINT SHOT
Clearly that has been a serious weakness of the Monarchs over the last few weeks or so. On average over the last eight games teams are 60-154 from the three shooting 39 percent. Over the last two games against Phoenix and two games against San Antonio they are combined shooting at a 43 percent clip (40-93) from the 3 point line. THAT CLEARLY HAS TO CHANGE!!!!! The Monarchs can not afford to give up extra points from three. Let Bekkah and Yo do their thing against Young, Irvin and Little straight up no double team. But our perimeter players (particularly Ticha, Chelsea and Nicole) can not leave their shooters, not one bit.

PICK UP THE TEMPO PACE
On offense, let's force the issue on the fast break a little. It is clear that Sacramento needs easy baskets. I don't know how the Silver Stars transition defense is, but lets see. Get easy shots.

NICOLE POWELL MUST BE AGGRESSIVE
She has had the best season of her career this season. The Monarchs need somebody to average 20 points a night in order to succeed. Every other team in the tournament has a go to, break them down, create their own shot, capable of scoring 20 a night player. WE NEED NICOLE POWELL TO BECOME THAT IN THE POST SEASON.

CONTAIN BECKY HAMMON AND DENY HER
Try to keep the ball out of Hammon's hands as much as you possibly can. She is Steve Nash. As Hammon goes, so goes the Silver Stars. As you saw in the last game, in the first half she had them going, in the second half she was shut down and so was San Antonio. It is up to newton and Ticha to wear her down defensively.

TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS
Protect the ball please. No forcing passes into the teeth of the zone. No Adrian Williams trying to make something happen by putting the ball on the floor. No Latangela at all period. And no Haynie or "Sho-time" Robinson throwing stupid passes to the opposition.

TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS
Preach it Reign!! AMEN! PLEASE MONARCHS…SERIOUSLY…STOP! 20+ turnover nights are done, turn the page on that and try something different. If you want to FORCE 20+ TO a night, totally cool with that. I don’t care about tossing passes into the heart of the zone, they have to be SMART passes. Adrian, if you don’t have a turn and go to the basket, PASS IT BACK OUT TO A GUARD OR WING AND LET THEM RESET.

DEFEND EVERYWHERE
Nothing easy. The SilverStars have shredded the defense in the games they won with adept inside outside assaults. Take it away. If they want to stay outside bombing away, let’um. But do not let Young and Riley et al eat you alive in the paint too. Too much was easy, force the lower percentage shots. I agree about Hammon to the extent that she must not be allowed to penetrate, if she wants to try to shoot all night from behind the arc, go for it BHamm, that’s better than her getting anybody else involved.

BE AGGRESSIVE…BE BE AGGRESSIVE.
Hell, I’ll take EVERYBODY being aggressive not just Nicole. Monarchs can get by without her going 20/gm, she’s a dangerous enough weapon out there if she is shooting (agree there) AND setting up others when the defense starts to key on her (which they will). If she goes 12/5/4 – I think we’re winning games because other people should be involved too. Anything above that is gravy. IIIIIIIIIF, we have others being aggressive and taking what the defense gives them. Like say Powell’s partner in crime on the wing, Kara Lawson. She needs to have a series or two…or three ;) And everybody needs to make damn layups. We’re going home early too if we’re missing chippies AGAIN…like the turnovers, the missed layups allowance ENDED AT THE END OF THE REGULAR SEASON (as if they were ever acceptable). The Ms should be the team dictating tempo, not San Antonio.

EMBRACE THE FREE
Monarchs MUST take advantage of the free throws they get. ”Free is Good.” Monarchs are going nowhere in the postseason unless a bag of consistent offense falls off the back of a truck somewhere (AND the Monarchs find it) if they try to shoot less than 70% from the line in a game. Not only is it unacceptable, it kills momentum, a team’s ability to stay in/or control a game and generally makes me angry (not necessarily in that order ;)).

HIT THE GLASS
She who controls the glass controls the game….Like the free throw shooting, Ms MUST control the glass, especially the offensive glass. Yo, AW, B, NikkiP? This means you ladies. Any guards who want to mix it up, y’all get in there too. Stop limiting yourselves to one and dones: your offensive consistency is NOT that good. Conversely, the Monarchs must limit San Antonio’s second chance opportunities. We’ve been horrible at that this year too, and good shooting teams such as the ones we’ll see the rest of the way in the West, don’t need to be gift wrapped additional shot clock ticks and/or possessions.

REMEMBER THE ALAM…EH, EXPERIENCE
Monarchs….you’ve been here. The playing like a bunch of rookies new to the league and each other ALSO ended when the regular season ended. You are the two time defending conference champions, not them, not Seattle and not Phoenix. Forget the little fort thing in San Antonio, defend your damn home court. No more losses here in the post season, that last one was painful. And take a game in Texas. If I didn’t mention it, you are the two time defending conference champions, they are merely standing in the way of where you want to be… Play like it. Act like it. Want it.

Yo: be yo of old. it's the playoffs, it may be your last WNBA game(s) so she has to go all out. (I know she will though)

Bek: keep on reboundin' and be a monster inside. needs to clean up her "j".

NP: you're the "hired gun" so act like it. 3 point shooting has been down lately so need to get back into rhythm. also needs to cut down on TOs (everyone needs to cut down actually).

Chelsea: Lock down "D" pleeeeeaaase. We do not need the Taurasis, Pondexters, Nolans, heck even Perkins burning us up every night.

Ticha: No bricks. Needs to be a factor on offense. if they leave you open....take it to the hole and either: pass/assist, get fouled, or maybe even score. Defense needed too since opposing perimeter players are killing us.

Kara: just be your usual 6th woman of the year - spark plug off the bench. Shot has been on and off this season so need to get back in rhythm.

AW: please no butter fingers everytime a pass goes into the paint (we get a ton of TO's like that). keep on being aggressive. make your FTs. and do the dirty work. remember you're filling in for Bek (who's filling in for DWalk).

Scho-Time: keep on being aggressive but don't be a vaccuum on offense. Don't make dumb passes and certainly play defense the way you're supposed to be capable of.

Haynie: Keep on stroking those 3's. Having the highest 3 point shooting percentage of any monarch is useless if you're not shooting it. Keep on getting those steals (though you don't get credit for them in the boxscore) and keep up the D. BUT PLEASE stop the TOs, stop the TOs.

Tangy: Do the dirty work, get some stops, rebounds, whatever.....cut the TOs.

Fro: get some playing time

Kim Smith: Get activated.

AND MEMO TO SEATTLE: Beat Phoenix.

Great game analysis MBF & P.R...you sure we can't get you a quick shout-out to Coach Boucek to take into her practices;)
My thoughts are that, I don't know which team will show up, the play has been so inconsistant. It's time we had an identity, some swagger, good old fashioned unity. The Monarchs & fans need to do some soul searching.& bring the mojo...defend,attack,rebound,focus & no doubt play smart.
We are in our house & we can't accept nothing short of victory.
This will be the biggest game this season & a must win. Taking 2 in their house will not be easy. They have their fans & pride on the line. They want what we have.
Lets just go get it done & put it all on the line. Come on MONARCHS...BUST SOME ***...oops might be getting a bit hyped:cool:

playoffs 07..Monarchs belong!
