Why Atl Does it...

They don't have to give up any of their starting 5 and they can add Bibby as their starting PG. Bibby, JJ, Marvin, Smith, Horford is not a bad line up. They do however deplete their sixth man in Childress. But I think It is worth it for them.

Why Sac does it...

I think this is pretty obvious. We get a strong shot blocking (or supposedly) in Shelden williams, and Childress is a solid win player that plays good defense. This gives us flexibility and young talent.

I like it, but I don't see Atlanta doing this trade, at least not now. If they were contending, then I could definitely see this trade happening, because like you said they don't have to give up any of their starters to get a player like Bibby, and this would kind of be their answer to the Gasol trade

I think the Hawks would want to move either Anthony Johnson or Tyronn Lue (or both) in a trade. They have way too many point guards as it is. Claxton is unmovable, and they'll want to keep Law. I'm not sure they can trade their only core player off the bench for Bibby. They would be sacrificing their depth at the 2 and 3 positions, and Joe Johnson plays too much as it is.
