SF Chronicle - Kirk Rueter has been a starter his whole career and wants to rejoin the Giants' rotation, where he believes he can best help them win. If he can't start for San Francisco, Rueter would like to move to a team that will let him pitch every fifth day.

Rueter told The Chronicle on Monday he has asked the Giants to explore a trade if they do not plan to return him to the rotation for the rest of the season. As a player with 10 years of major-league service and five with the same team, Rueter has the right to veto any trade but has submitted a list of acceptable teams.

Thus far, there have been no takers.

"I don't know what's out there, but I'm willing to take a chance and go see," Rueter said. "I'm the same guy I always was. I'm not throwing 75 mph. I would love to start here (with the Giants) and know I'm going to be there every five days. I don't know anybody who loves going back and forth. This has nothing to do with the Giants. I want to win for them more than anything. I just want to pitch."

____________

I feel real bad for this guy. He's given us a lot over the years, but I honestly think he's got nothing left. I hate to see him just fizzle and spiral out like this, but I guess that's just the way it is in sports.

Let him go... 2-7 and a 5.73 ERA should not warrant you keeping your starting job.

Plus, we have the youngsters that need to develop...Bring on Schmidt/Lowry/Foppert/Hennessy/Correia as our starting 5...Won't win much now, but they'll end up just fine for the future.

Trade him to the Yanks, they need pitching.

I know he shouldn't be starting...really shouldn't be on this team at all, it's just very sad. I like Woody, but unfortunately all his good times here seem to be cemented in the past.

i've appreciated all kirk rueter has done for the SF giants franchise, but he needs to go. he's been on the decline for the past 3 years, if the giants are serious about winning, it's not going to happen with him on the mound.
