ROAD TRIP any thoughts on logistics? flights?

#1
Boy what a nightmare trying to arrange flights. The only good surprise was that you can fly between Houston and San Antonio for $29. That is better than a 3 hour drive back.

We looked into it, but gave up because the airfare is prohibitive -- $1200 for two.

However, I think either JetBlue or ExpressJet has non-stop flights from SMF to San Antonio. That might be better, if the schedule will work.

We're focusing on close-to-home trips this year, saving up for a grand trip to Hawaii in December.

I definitely recommend the Monarchs Road Trip to everyone. The ones I've been on were great.

GO MONARCHS!!!

We also got the letter with the info about the STH trip.
Appx $130 for game pkg.
Appx $280 for Hotels

First thing I did was check on flights.
-Appx $320for the flight to SA
-Appx $246from Houston to Sac.

Next since there was no mention of transportation to the arena for the games. I wondered how we would get there.(anyone else question this?)
I mapquested from the hotels to arenas and found out that they were quite far from each other.
Cost ?Public Transit or rental car? Both have there draw backs.

Depending upon the time the game ends and flight times, it may require you to stay an extra night.(an additional expense)
At appx $1000 + spending money a piece:(
It's alittle too expensive for us.

NBH may be able to supply information in more detail since I am going from failing memory. PinkPoodleAdventures had given her some preliminary pricing on an itinerary for flights which when I saw it looked reasonable.

There were hotels nearby both SBC (or whatever it is now) Center and Reliant. I was sorta remembering especially with the case with Reliant that there were a few hotels that were within the complex where the basketball arena, football stadium and the Astrodome all sit. So I figured since that's where a big 4th of July celebration was going to be held in Hou and likely where the team was going to be staying (since there appeared to be a 4-5 star in that complex as well) that's where they were going to bus people to when they bus folks from San Antonio to Hou.

I meant to do this earlier, but I'll ask our resident Houstonian to wander over and offer some advice.

This is the e-mail from my friend Jayne...feel free to contact her if you want to set up your trip. I can't get the 5th off from work :( so I'll have to plan a short trip as well this season...Seattle anyone?

Well Have fun folks

I am sure it will be a blast. I pass.

I appaud the effort to be original but there is too much logically to make this happen. Flights get delayed, folks run out of rental cars.

Next Year we plan our own when the schedule comes out and we tell MS&E when we are coming and to do something for us.

MS&E probably would love to go where folks want them to go but they also are beholden to the team's travel schedule that coach sets once the league schedule is finalized...which was why the la trip was first put on the table and a seattle trip became less feasible. That also is why they don't plan the trip immediately after the schedule is released. What may happen is we need to suck it up and stomach a few more trips in a row to LA until a more favorable league schedule hits to allow phx and sea to come back in play..I concur with with Hoopmatron..the reception with the team is the best part of the trip. Showing up in an enemy arena 100+ strong with the fans and the team in the same tshirt is a strong second. If folks can make the trek next yr it is worth it.
