Chief Justice Rehnquist Dies at His Home

WASHINGTON - Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist died Saturday evening at his home in suburban Virginia, said Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg.

Wow. Oh wow. Just learned this by clicking on this thread...wasn't even on NY Times page...wow. This could not have possibly come at a worst time, with the Hurricane, Iraq, and resentment over Roberts, who will get confirmed, but for whoever gets nominated to this vacany will have one hell of a battle. I'll say this much: it's a shame O'Connor retired. Scalia, Thomas...this can't be good.

RIP Rehnquist.

If nothing else, this should be something everyone watches as it will truly be an exercise of democracy (and politics) in action to find his replacement.
