Report: Celtics, Posey Agree to Terms

well, the moves that lead up to this deal really makes him look good. he wouldn't have gotten KG if he didn't pull the trigger on the allen trade. all the other moves seem to be a snowball effect. i'd be pissed if they don't make it to the ECF w/ all the talent they have on the squad.

It looks like Ainge has finaly figured out that he can't jsut have a bad season and trus his luck in even a stacked loto... props to him for making his own luck!

The Heat are going to regret that. The only real SF they have on their squad is Dorell Wright. So, it's either him or 'Toine starting at the 3 next season.

Ruben Patterson had been talking with the Celtics, but the Posey signing probably rules that out. Maybe Miami can pick him up.

He's doing a good job this season, but I don't think he's a lock for GM of the Year. I've always been hesitant to praise a guy who trades away all the youth and all the depth in a couple of blockbuster deals, while giving his tea a two year window to either win a championship, which is the ultimate goal, or implode and have to start from scratch again.

If the Celtics can get a couple of rings out of all this activity, then Ainge did his job. And he's done a good job of building a contender in practically one offseason, which was made possible by the way he's drafted for a couple of years now. But GM of the Year doesn't come until your team actually comes together and plays well on the court.

this is the perfect situation for the celtics w/ a 2-3 yr window. its either win it all or go home. in 2-3 yrs all their massive, monumental, enormous, gagantuan, gigantic, mammoth, monster, whopper, humongous, colossal, etc etc etc contracts come off the books. they'll have a shot at the ring and after that they'll be free of those large contracts and can rebuild. they weren't going anywhere with their previous shotty line up and had no cap flexibility so who really cares?

Nice signing by the Celtics. Slowly their bench is coming along + with the Big 3 you don't really need to go 9-10 deep into the rotation.

What annoys me about Celtics fans from going on various boards is that they think their team is based around Paul Pierce just cause he's been there the longest. They're wrong. Pierce won't bring them to a championship, Garnett will. This is KG's team first and foremost with Allen and Pierce as probably the best number 2 and 2-A scoring options in NBA history. But since Pierce has been wearing green the longest they seem to think that he's the go to guy with Garnett and Allen as a supporting cast, just cause the latter are the new guys. Nevermind the fact that Paul Pierce isn't really better than Ray Allen (Pierce is a better slasher and can post up, but Ray kills him in shooting), there's no way that he's THE leader on a team that has Kevin Garnett on its roster.

I don't wanna generalize but a lot of die hard Celtics fans think like that and I really hope that it isn't the case on the actual team.

I think the whole point is it won't have to be just Garnett - who hasn't gotten a title by himself either. It won't have to be just Pierce and it won't have to be just Ray Allen. It's a TEAM effort and the Celtics have put together a TEAM for the now. The Celtics fans I know recognize the TEAM and aren't overly concerned with picking out one player. They don't have to ...

It's been my experience over the years that younger fans are the ones who seem overly concerned about go-to guys, "THE leader," etc. The long-term die-hard Celtics fans know the real value of TEAM. They saw it back in the day and they may well be seeing it again. I was a Celtics fan from 1964 to 1985. Even in the days when it was clearly Larry Bird's team, it was a TEAM. And it looks like they've got the TEAM right now to make a real exciting run for a title. If they get it, no one other than a few folks on some message boards are gonna worry about who the "go to guy" or "leader" was. They'll just cherish a return to the show...
