I have not given an update for quite some time. I just want to say that I was under the assumption that I would not be having strong urges to smoke at this point. Wrong! I suppose after approx 37 years of smoking, 6 mo is nothing and occasional urges should be expected. So far, so good though.

Quit counter:
Non-smoker: 6M 3W 5D 11h 7m 27s
Am't saved: $933.40
Cigarettes not smoked: 6223
Life saved: 3W 14h 35m

Wassup 7th ??? ... favor to ask ...

Can you figure out what I've saved ??? I quit smoking the day my little girl was born ... I literally threw out a fresh pack as I was walking out of the hospital.

Dec 17, 1991

Congrats on quitting .... it gets easier

Wooohooo, that's so awesome 7th! Congrats! :)

That's crazy, look at all that money saved. And just think all that would be wasted on buying something that's bad for you.

Question: To anyone who has that smoker thing downloaded, how long does it take to download? I was going to do it but when I realized you had to download something I put it off, so I'm just wondering how long it takes..if anyone remembers. And if it takes up alot of space because my comp is slow enough already

Congrats 7th.

I know that it takes tremendous will power to stay off those things. I think you're doing really well.

ImD24_7, one of my colleagues tried everything, patches, gum, diets. All sorts, but all too often he found himself in a 'social' environment down the pub and it was just too easy to light up. Then someone recommended a book to him which (apparently make subliminal suggestions to your subconscious as you read it) and 'poof', quicker than VF could blitz all vestages of you from this board, he no longer has the desire to have 'just one more fag'.

i dont have the title and author here, but will let you know.

To Folsom Al and ImaD,

www.silkquit.org has this "quit counter". It is right on the front page. It is free, and all I gave was my first name. It will keep track of several people for you and puts the counter across the bottom of your screen. I think it only took a few seconds to download. (I have cable connection.)

Al, it asks a few questions like...How many cigs did you smoke per day? How much did you spend on each pack? That sort of thing.

Outstanding 7th! My hat's off to you & then some. For those of you who haven't had to endure what 6th had to put herself through to be able to even make this post... words simply cannot describe. You are truly master of your domain!

Wow, that's an amazing story. All the things he did to quit and just to think reading a BOOK got him to quit. That's awesome. Congrats to your friend.

Folsom Al- I know you quit in 1991 but did you have a recent money/life saved, etc for us? Im just interested in what 15 years can do. Keep up the good work too.

Give Up The Illusion Of Having Just One

You are welcome. This idea really helped me quit.

Give Up The Illusion Of Having "Just One":
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One puff or one cigarette has never been enough for you and never will be enough. It will inevitably take you back to smoking your normal amount. The crux of beating a drug addiction is knowing this: IT IS THE FIRST ONE THAT DOES YOU IN.
I quit smoking in the summer of '91, but I have fell off the wagon a few times since, but not more than a few months each occurance, and never got back up to that pack a day I was smoking before '91. Quitting and sticking with it is difficult, at least for me, as I do succumb to the temptation once every two years or so.
I never tried the patch or hypnotism or books or anything.
I usually get the craving when I see one of those "smoking" movies. The last one was Constantine, where Keanu Reeves is lighting up the entire film despite having lung cancer, they glamourize his habit, just by the way he pulls a smoke from the pack and the metal clang of his zippo lighting it. Man, despite the fact that he had cancer, I so badly wanted to go buy a pack of Marlboro Red after seeing that.
Does this dang craving ever go away? :mad: While I am happy to report my quit smoking stats, I will say that the craving to smoke has been unbelievably strong these past couple of days. I do believe that had I not been broke, I may have gone in search of a smoke. **sigh**
Statistics:
Not smoked: 8 M, 3W, 4D, 19h, 47s
Money saved: $1209.52
Cigs not smoked: 8062
Life saved: 4W
It's good that you are broke, sad to say. I thought the cravings would have gone away by now, it's been a while but keep up the good work, it's worth it.
I caved in right after I did my post on the fifth. I'm sucking down Marlboros like there's no tomorrow. Up to half pack a day already. Don't cave in 6th, I'm just weak and do this about once a year. I even smoked so much one day last week that I made myself sick, but then I went and bought another pack the next day. Tobacco and fire=relaxation.
It's not actually a "craving" per se, because the nicotine is totally out of your system. It's actually your subconscious (which you should never trust ;) ) trying to trick you into a temporary gratification. Don't listen.
You are NOT a smoker. You are a NON-smoker. Keep that in the front of your mind and tell your subconscious to take a long walk...off a short pier.
