Postgame Quotes-vs. Houston 11/23
Kings Coach Rick Adelman
“I just thought that was a terrific win. That was a good team we played against, with two great players. We did so many things well offensively. This is the team that is second in points given up and first in field goal percentage; we had 30 assists and 7 turnovers against them. We really were looking to find the other side of the court and they’re very good on the strong side. We felt that we could get a lot of shots if we just had the ball moving and kept looking to swing it. We had Greg (Ostertag) contribute off the bench. Bobby (Jackson) – obviously it was good to see him get going and Darius (Songaila) was great. Greg came in and gave us a real lift too. So it was just a solid win to finish this home-stand off and now we’ve got to go down to L.A. and see if we can’t get a road win.”
On the play of the bench:
“This was a good team for Greg because they’re so big with Yao Ming and with (Dikembe) Mutombo so he gets into the game a lot easier than if he’s running around. For the whole week we’ve been trying to figure out a way for when we go to the bench – how are we going to keep things going offensively – and I thought tonight we did some good things. I tried to leave Peja (Stojakovic) in sometimes with them, I tried to leave Mike (Bibby) in the game with Bobby (Jackson). It really helped when Bobby started to take it to the basket like he did, that just gives you a big lift. It gives you a huge lift when you get that production out of those guys especially when you have other guys who struggled a little bit tonight. It was a great win for us though to finish this home-stand off.”
Chris Webber
“It feels really good. I think, obviously, defending your home court in the Western Conference is going to be really big. For us to come out and to be able to win five after the way we were going, is really significant for us as a team. Now we have to go out on the road and battle and try to win some, but again, the home is where everything starts.”
On defending Tracy McGrady:
“It’s tough. I know how good T-Mac is. By any stretch of the imagination, I’m not going to think I’m going to go out there and stop him, I’m just trying to slow him up. But when he gets in the zone and starts hitting shots, he’s tough. He is so talented and strong, he’s going to do what he wants out there. When I first saw a tape of him that Isiah (Thomas) showed me, I said, “If you don’t get that kid, something is wrong with you.”
Bobby Jackson
“I just attack the basket first, and then move on from there. When that happens, my game just opens. If I think I’m taking too many jump shots, then I start attacking the basket and making things happen for other guys.
On if he keeps shooting even when his shots aren’t falling:
“Yes, I’m always going to do that. That’s just me. That’s the only way I know how to play, just to keep shooting them, and hoping that they go in. If you don’t shoot them, you will never know if they are going to go in.
On the bench:
“Those guys came in and did a tremendous job. That’s how it’s got to be if we are going to be successful. Guys got to come in and perform the way they are capable of performing. Even if you don’t score a lot of points, you got to be stopping them on the defensive end.”
Houston Rockets
Jim Jackson
“We felt we were in the game and we had a chance the whole way.”
“Yao was playing strong. Brad backed up on him for a travel and that could’ve been a point or two points. It was mentally tough at the end of the game.”
“What makes it tough is they got a great team. It makes it hard beating them on the road, let alone at home. That’s 75 to 80 percent why it’s hard to play here.”
Yao Ming
“I had turnovers tonight and I think the turnovers are a bigger problem.”
“I was focused on attacking, but I lost sight of stuff and gave the ball up in the last two minutes.”
“We wanted to quickly get the lead back and overtake them. Everything had been going smoothly up to that point so I think that it was just carelessness.”
Tyronne Lue
“We had control and we knew what they were doing. They made some tough shots. We wanted to make them take some jump shots and they made a lot early. They made some big jump shots down the stretch.”
“The game was definitely there to be won. We knew what they were going to run coming into the game and we kept our defense up. We turned over the ball down the stretch in the fourth quarter and it hurt us not getting shots to the basket.”
