Post your thoughts: Indy/Sac - 7/26

I guess not many saw or attended the game since it was at 11:30am. So I will share my thoughts.

First of all the defense is back!!! A SEASON LOW 50 POINTS ALLOWED. have not seen this team play "D" like that since last season. That was an outstanding effort. The movement, the switching, the help, ust outstanding.

Kristen Haynie was very solid. Her best game of the season. 10 points, on 5 of 7 shooting, ONE TURNOVER!!!:D Her energy and level of interest was very high and she ran the floor beautifully.

PLAYER OF THE GAME belongs to Rebekkah Brunson. Physically she was much better than the last two games. Her inside play was the key.

Have to agree with Purple Reign--best I have seen the Monarchs defense this year. Haynie did look more confident, and Bekka is just GREAT! So glad she plays for our team:D

Officiating was hands down the WORST I have seen this season. When Adrian Williams--mild-mannered gal that she is--received a technical, I feared the worst. But our gals had the lead for all but a few minutes in the first quarter. The are playing four solid quarters of defense & offense these last 2 games. Offense could still be improved, but I am starting to believe that they will peak at just the right time.

Go Monarchs!!!

Nice to see Haynie get a nice game. It was a long time coming. Also, Great Defense. Not to break anyone's bubble (our bubble) but indy was without Catch, so we should still take this win with a grain of salt. HOWEVER, given that Indy is a very deep team and we also don't have DeMya, then this is a good win indeed. Nice to develop some momentum into the second half of the season.

I got to listen to some of the game on the radio. I really liked what I was hearing about the defense. I don't even know what to say about Bekkah. With DeMya out, what would we be doing without Brunson? She has stepped into the role as I have envisioned her upon Yo's retirement. And, Haynie, I have been waiting for you to play with the energy and focus you were apparently displaying today. Way to go, girl!!

I knew going into this game that it would be ugly, and it sure lived up to that. But that is bound to happen when you have two of the best defensive teams in the league match up.

First off, the point guard play yesterday was fantastic. Kristen Haynie had a great game. For the first time in a loooooong time she looked confident out there taking shots and running the team. It was a welcome sight. Ticha also had another great game, not so much with the scoring, but with the defense and the way she was running the team. I was very pleased with both point guards yesterday.

The officiating was UGLY. Crap calls on both sides, but I swear ref #49 was playing for Indy. Those calls in the first half were unbelievable. Pretty telling that Adrian Williams got a technical. The calls were that bad! Boucek was so incredulous that her jacket had to come off. The foul calls on Ticha in that first quarter were absolute crap. And they were all made by #49.

Brunson continues to be a warrior out there. I wish she could be out there for longer spurts, but I think this is how it is going to be for the rest of the year.

Things looked good to me yesterday. Yo has looked a lot more Yo-like the past couple of games and that is a good sign for us. Haynie might just be turning that corner and putting the past behind her, she played a hell of a game. The offense has looked much better in the past two home games with Ticha leading more of a fast break tempo. And the defense appears to be back. It doesn't make for pretty basketball, but who cares about pretty when we get the W? It was a good, quality win... even if they were without Catchings. They are still one hell of a team.

My partner couldn't make it to the game, so I brought my boss, who isn't that into WNBA, but he still had a good time. He also noticed the calls #49 was making were all against Sac for most of the game.

Better defensive intensity against a quick team. I thought DeForge might go off at some point but she was relatively quiet. Even Whitmore wasn't as consistent as she usually is.

Everyone stepped it up a notch. And that is a very good sign. And we even had a Frolich sighting. She came in to bang a bit with Hoffman.

It seemed that both teams couldn't hit anything at first. We were standing for about 3-4 minutes I think (?). At least it seemed like it was awhile before a point was scored. It was great to see Haynie get herself going, the team needed that boost as well. Knowing everyone was doing decently brings their overall confidence up.

Good Win

Forgot to post my comments...

Pretty Much Ditto...

Defense was really good. I have contended that Kara and Nicole need to be in double digits for us to compete. They had 12 points combine, but when we can hold a team to 50, and none of the Indy started got to Double figures. That is good Defensive stuff. I can't even get upset about the 12 points because 22 big points from the Bench. Contributions from everyone.

Adrian getting a "T" was the highlight of my day, cause I find that type of stuff funny. But it was a testiment to how sorry the officating was. Enough said.

Hurraayyyy!!!
Linda Frolich Sighting.

Booted the first pass to her, but hey 5 minutes is 5 very necessary minutes of rest for Bekkah or Yo. She did okay.
Especially in all the stats we value. A defensive rebound, 1 steal, and a Blocked shot. If she could have hit that one shot she would have filled the stat sheet.

Outstanding Point guard play all around. And Yeah Ticha got Hosed. Tully mugged her in the paint and Ticha got the call. But they both kept their heads and Haynie was very aggressive. I actually cried when Ticha drove to the basket and scored. It was so emotional.

So our girls have a little rest time to ice those muscles and then close out against Minny. This is the big game. It is easy to let our guard down just a little. We have to close out this home stand with purpose. Lets finish Strong Ladies.
