These trades are based on the assumption that the Kings resign Artest for a sign and trade at roughly 12 million a year for X number of years (which is just under what the average SF of his caliber makes). Since few teams will have the cash to sign him straight up (at least the ones that want him) it seems like that a sign and trade is the only option if a team wants him.
Trade Scenario One:
Kings trade -
John Salmons
Mikki Moore
Atlanta's 2nd rounder
Suns trade -
Boris Diaw
+ about 2 million in filler contracts (resign Big Nasty for a sign and trade?)
Reasons:
The Shaq trade proves that the Suns are not only desperate for a championship now, but are willing to trade their future for it. Mikki Moore and John Salmons greatly improves the depth of their team and Diaw, while talented, does not provide the energy that Phoenix needs off the bench. D'antoni first tried to sign Salmons before he agreed to come to Sacramento so he obviously is interested. And though we rag on the Kings for having to start Moore he's perfect off the bench for Phx. He's worked with a superstar PG before and know the pick and role very well.
The Kings in return get another passing big man which is always a plus in my book. Kind of a poor mans Webber type. His contract also does not get larger over the years so even if he is a bust it won't cost the Kings like it did with Bibby.
Trade Scenario Two:
Kings trade -
Ron Artest (with a new contract)
2nd Round Pick
Knicks trade -
David Lee
Malik Rose (Expiring/Waived)
Wilson Chandler
Reasons:
More or less this is a return to the trade talks earlier this season. The Knicks get an All-star two way player and obviously the team isn't worried about team chemistry (see Zach and Marbury) without having to give up a star in return. The Kings get the golden boy David Lee as well as the untapped potential of Chandler. The only problem is this trade heavily depends on how much Artest gets paid.
On a side note I think we need to forget about dumping K9 and SARs contracts now. Its not likely a team will take either of them unless 1. They are desperate for big men (and I mean really desperate). Or 2. The other team is going to try and screw us over for another player. We've put up with them for this long why not wait till they earn their worth by becoming expiring contracts the season after. Those two will total 14 million in expiring contracts and if we use the precedent set by the Lakers and Memphis we should be able to get a superstar out of it.
