OC Register: NBA deal or no deal: Which will Maloofs choose?

Looks like even Anaheim sees that the Maloofs are fighting the NBA now. And if they acknowledge the Maloofs are bad off enough to not survive a few more years here without all the extra loans. Youngman is missing the point that the Maloofs don't appear to be solvent enough to be NBA owners any longer. That is what the NBA seems to be working with. Of course he probably wants to hide this fact knowing that Samueli will end up with the team.

This is the first that we are hearing that Anaheim has put together corporate sponsorship that triples the amount that KJ has put together. I am skeptical of the accuracy of this article.

That's not too surprising. The 10m is *on top* of whatever corporate support Sac already had. If the 10m was *all* they had; it meant they had literally 0 corporate support.

The NBA didn't vet those claims so in a way, it makes no difference. The NBA, per this article, supports the Kings staying in Sacramento. He can say what he wants.

LWP777, do you mean that it doesn't sound regarding the Kings staying now? Damn, if that's true, it's going to suck!
Oh well, I still think there is still some hope that they won't leave...Hope is all we have now....

All Grant is doing is reading BS from Youngman's article. Youngman has zero credibility. Grant is a complete moron for even reading this on the air though. Terrible timing.

I don't know anything about Youngman. Are you confident that he is just spewing BS? It sounded pretty legit.

As a political consultant, I really doubt Rod Stutzman has a red face over this issue. It's pretty much his job to use the CA Constitution to affect political issues. And in this case, it didn't cost him "a lot of money." Gathering signatures is cheap. It was probably less than $30K and a lot of that probably was spread out through many donations for solely this purpose. On top of that, anyone ever hear of Rod Stutzman before this? The publicity alone was probably worth it.

The red face was probably on Samueli. Using the City arranged bonds would have saved him lots of money.

He's reading Youngman's article. Grant treats it as gospel.

I can't believe how out of the loop Grant seems. Anyone who's read the OC Register over the last few weeks should know that Youngman manufactures bull**** like it's going out of style.

Youngman is a retard..

The Maloofs are broke, and if the NBA lets them to continue to own their franchise after all this is over I will be surprised.. Youngman is trying to get the media talking about Anaheim again. The money KJ got is on top of the money that they already were getting. The Maloofs have not even tried here.. They were sabotaging this in order for it to look better if they left. KJ just proved them wrong.

Sounds like BS to me. Anaheim has 30 million in corporate pledges, yet we're just now hearing about it? Remember, Youngman is the same dude who said the Maloofs had already filed and the NBA was fast tracing their approval a few weeks ago.

And if you think it was SOOOOOOO good in Anaheim why would the NBA tell them to stay here?

Also, why would they just call Anaheim instead of actually going there? This is just one big retard trying to report somethign that's not there.

Anaheim's corporate money is 3 times more than Sacramento's and there will be $24 million a year in TV revenue for the Kings? I won't believe it until I see it. Also, the story says that Samueli will buy into the team. Would he be an additional minority owner or will one or all of the current minority owners be bought off? If all of this is true no wonder the Maloofs want to get out of town. The owners still have to vote and the NBA is leaning for the Kings to stay put at least for one more year. The Maloofs are in a pickle. They can't just move and disobey the NBA and it's 'constitution.' Stay tuned.

-Cheers.

And genius Grant is playing right into his hands.

To protect their boy, Buss.

The fact that this terribly slanted article was even published shows that the Register is as poorly funded and operated as the Sacramento Bee. It's also a display of Grant's intelligence and reverence for his own well-being as a professional that he's reading this on-air, potentially damaging the positive image/momentum that Sacramento has been enjoying the past week. Awesome.

Just dismiss all of these goons and focus on the real news coming out of guys like Amick with SI.

This is the dumbest ******* thing Grant has ever done. There's absolutely no reason under the sun to even acknowledge this article much less read it of the air. I'm really in disbelief right now at what I just heard.

The reason is worries me is because, as much as Grant is a total tool, he usually is pretty spot on with his info. If he thought it was total BS, I don't think he would have read it.

I think I'm just gonna change the syntax in my post and send it to Grant and see if his dumb*** reads that on air too. Obviously he has no filter in his brain for stuff that could hurt him. Ron Burgundy is less of an idiot than this guy is.

I get the impression he isn't familiar enough with Youngman to know that his articles always reek of OC biased BS. But either way, you don't read it on the ******* air.

It's fine that he reads this on the air. It will motivate Sac businesses and politicians even more. It's fine. We're good with public support in Sac, and I'm pretty sure Amick and Simmons are the ones that shaped the rest of the country's opinion.

I do wonder though who is giving up their minority interest? Or is he buying part of the Maloofs?!! In that case who is the managing owner!? What is the collateral for the mountain of loans Samueli is giving the Maloofs?! The franchise?!

And a horrible misuse of language:

"Samueli also has agreed to purchase a minority interest in the Kings. That, presumably, is millions more in revenue for the Maloofs."

Selling part of the team is not revenue. Revenue is income generated by an asset. Selling part of the asset is not revenue. Totally wrong word.

All in all it's not a bad article. Totally biased of course, but not too "inaccurate". There are of course dubious claims, such as "three times the corporate support" which are 1. clearly misleading and 2. unprovable and literally could just be coming from... you guessed it... Samueli owned companies. Yay it's 30 million worth of TV commercials for Broadcom telecast on his own station. Seriously the way the article is worded this is literally what it could be. It doesn't even say direct support of the team.

And the TV contract could literally be made to be worth 50 mil per year if they wanted to, just add the stipulation that part of it's got to go directly back to paying Samueli on relo/personal loan... there is so much shadiness around this that the NBA didn't even bother to visit. They literally phoned it in!

You can bet each of the owners who will be voting will be THOROUGHLY briefed on the "deal" Samueli is maneuvering. Whether or not they want to pave the way for him to join their club will be their call... or pave the way for Burkle.

At this point I firmly believe this is a battle between Burkle and Samueli as much as it is between two cities.

Randy Youngman has been on Grants show at least 3 times in the last month in a half. I agree the league does not want a third team in the la market and the nba wants the team to stay in Sacramento and if we can't get an arena financed and planned by March 1st of next year I think we all agree we can't blame the Maloofs for moving correct? Also if the Maloofs do file even though the league told them not to and the Maloofs do file an anti trust lawsuit against the league there is no way in the world they would win that court case.

Just back up to the top of the article and read this part again:

If they want to move the Sacramento Kings to Anaheim, they have to fight the NBA.

The rest is all about face saving or last ditch efforts to bolster Anaheim. Youngman acknowledges upfront that the NBA is against moving to Anaheim. And if the NBA holds all the cards, then the rest doesn't matter.
