Non-Monarchs-Stanford vs ASU

77-71. What a game! Down to the wire, lead changes, awesome girls. No one was wearing purple, but it helped anyway! Candace Wiggins was back!

Somehow I missed all but the final 13 seconds of this game when it aired live, so I had to wait until some REALLY ungawdly hour of morning to see the entire game here on the East coast.

I gotta say...with the prospect of not having their starting point guard for much if not all of the season, and turning the reigns over to pg guard by (freshman) committee...I completely underestimated Stanford's ability to stave off the up and coming teams in the Pac-10 this season thus far. There was a period in this game where Stanford had to play 4 freshman on the floor and that was some ugly basketball, but for the most part the Cardinal's ability to play some defense AND to stop turning the ball over helped a lot.

This had to also be one of a handful of games I've seen Wiggins be almost non existent in the first half only to go completely unconscious in the 2nd. She's walking wounded, which made her explosion to open the 2nd half all the more impressive.

I gotta also admit...despite evidence to the contrary..I've been slow to the ASU party train. I should be a believer by now because for the last 4 years this has been a rising program. I've also been slow to buy a ticket to Emily Westerberg's nghtly show...she's growing on me though as is ASU as a whole.

Fun game to watch indeed. :)
