(Non-Monarchs) NCAA Regional Tournament Sites

#1
Continuing my "it's almost March" theme...California will be hosting some segments of the upcoming NCAA Women's Basketball tournament. Wanted to toss this information out there in the event folks are interested in getting tickets and going to see some of the talent headed here to play for a chance at a National Championship.

March 17th and 19th

Stanford will host Rounds 1 and 2 of their portion the tournament subregionals. Game times will be announced soon (if they aren't already posted somewhere - but I suspect they won't be until after Selection Monday and ESPN decides the games times) All session passes should be available for purchase now (if any are remaining - I received ticket application a couple of months ago so they've been on sale for a while) so visit the Stanford Athletics website. If memory serves me, I believe this is a 6 game subregional 4 games/2 sessions the first day, and 2 games/1 session the 2nd day.

March 24th and 26th

Fresno State will play host for the Regional Semi Final and Final games which will send the winner of the Regional Final to the Final Four in Cleveland. Prognosticators for Women's College Basketball currently have projected Tennessee to be the #1 seed assigned to this region, which means seeing Candace Parker in person may be a mere 3 hour drive down 99, if Tennessee advances out of its subregion. Much can change over the next 3 weeks as conference play and conference tournament play concludes, but the scenario which would send Tennessee out West as the head of this bracket still seems solid. Day 1 is a 2 game 1 session semi final, Day 2 is 1 game/net cutting downer. :)

All session passes for Fresno and group rates (10 or more adults) are noted. If folks are interested in going to Fresno, I've got a contact for group tickets if we have a group. Otherwise, tickets are available by visiting the Fresno State Athletics website.

Eh...wacky final week of conference play and tournaments..

Well, wacky end of conference play and the first weekend of conference touraments has made things VERY interesting for the assignments to the regional brackets. Not so much per se about the sub regionals, but the volitility today I think could have an effect on who comes West. When last I posted the projection was Tennesse coming out here? Well, UConn crashed the #1 seed party as Maryland fell out of it. So depending whose projections you look at the potential #1 heading the Fresno bracket as of a week ago was either UConn or North Carolina. After today, and based on what happens with the ACC and Big East tournaments, that can all change and it seemingly could very well be back to Tennessee. As for who the number #2 #3 and #4 seeds assigned to this regional, who knows at this point :) everything seems up in the air right now. I think Stanford can help themselves stay west by winning their tourament and that's about the only feeling I have right now.

Stay tuned.....

Also....received a question about ticket availability.....for NCAA regional and subregional games. I'm not sure of the availability of tickets at the door day of game, its possible for both Maples and Fresno Save Mart. Tickets are still available for the Stanford first and second round games from what I've seen online right now. All session tickets for Stanford are $63 lower reserved/$43 upper reserved. Since Maples Pavillion's capacity is smaller (about 7K), its iffy on the ticket availability. Also, the per session price will be higher than if you by the all session pass. I believe again, in the first round, you have 2 sessions totally 4 games, and 1 session with 2 games in round two.

If bracket projections are released after conference tournament play this week, I'll post them here. I've seen projections of LSU, Stanford, Middle Tennessee St. and Temple (shout out to a potential DWalk visit?!?! :)) Nice teams to take in I'd say...but with what happened today, I'm guessing this projection might change a bit.

Ticket Update

With Selection Monday approaching, Stanford anticipates making single session tickets available for sale on Tuesday (two sessions - 2 games each on Saturday the 17th, and one session - 2 games on Monday the 19th). Not sure of the price per session, but you can visit their website and get that info. By Monday evening, they should have the teams/matchups available so you can choose which session you want to attend. First session starts @ 11am, second session @ 5pm.

If you're interested in going to Fresno and want single session tickets for the games there, single session tickets will go on sale Monday the 19th. No prices available for those yet. And again, on Selection Monday, you'll get an idea of what teams potentially could be playing there on the 24th.
