"Musselman and his coaching staff joined the Kings organization this summer with the departure of Rick Adelman, who coached the Kings for eight years. With a reputation for hard work and intensity, Musselman said he's been excited since August about start of the season. Players appear ready too.

"I've been surprised at the consistent effort of everyone whose come in here and worked," Musselman said. He said he was impressed at how many "stayed in town and worked on their game."

He cited an example just from Monday night. "I happened to come into the office at 9 to do some work. turned on my light, the gym lights were on, opened my window and there was 10 players playing full court -- at night -- organized by Ron Artest!"

Musselman said summer league was a great opportunity to see some of the younger players in action. One weakness has been at the back-up point guard position and Musselman said he was encouraged to see rookie draft pick Quincy Douby's skills at point.

As for who would fill the two guard role position Bonzi Wells played, the coach said that was still evolving. He looks for the training camp performances of Kevin Martin, Francisco Garcia and John Salmons to provide an answer.

Musselman said an emphasis on defense is something opponents and fans can look for on the Kings in the coming season. "We just want to try to have our defense create some offense," he said."

I find this particularly pleasing. I like seeing Ron take on a leadership role with the youngsters with regard to dedication to their profession in the off season and willingness to practice to get better before training camp starts.

Go Ron-Ron! Whip these guys into shape! ;)

Hell yea, thats exciting,Artest is a serious worker, one of my favorite things about him,hes all about working to get better while a lot of NBA players sit back,or go out and party.

A very good interview. I just listened to it and it was excellant. It gets you even more pumped up for the season to start.

good interview. but to me it sounded like bibby, and definitely kenny, are very worried about their roles - despite what musselman said. i know musselman said the starting 2 job was still up for grabs but if any1 other than kevin martin gets it there could be a riot. i hope its just some motivational tool and not some moment of madness. also, he didnt say anything about the starting 4 job but given the way he spoke of shareef ud have to think it would almost certainly be him.

I don't think Musselman has much to lose by shaking things up. I suspect that most Sacramento fans have rather low expectations this year. After what the Maloofs and the City Council have already done to the team, and the town, this year, how much more chaos and depression can be heaped on with a change in the line-up? Unless Brad and Mike are less perceptive than north coast banana slugs, I would think that they are very concerned about potential line-up changes and trades this season. The big-money boys with little or no apparent defensive skills.
