^^^ Well, it looked good before I hit "Submit Reply." Anyone know how to format this?

Bekkah was a beast in the paint. She was our leading scorer and rebounder... 34 min played and 17 pts, 8 rebs. We outscored the Liberty 42-26 in the paint and that was really the big difference in the game.

I also liked Powell's line, she's found her shot rhythm. I swear that I had looked at the box score from the championship game and thought, where are we going to get the post passing we got from DeMya? Well, Yo I guess answered that question. Looking at her line tonight and knowing what's she's capable of - is it possible that if the other players around her finish that she could get a triple double this season? Having an equal number of assists as rebounds from her is astounding.

Is this Maiga-Ba's third straight double digit scoring effort coming off the bench? If this new group can get the defensive kinks worked out - I'm liking where they are right now, a heckuva lot more than I liked it when I first saw them a week ago. They gave up fewer points today, but the Libs seem to have contributed to that by throwing the ball away a lot too.

From what I've heard from the radio broadcast, it sounds like Maiga-Ba is actually making 15-17ft jump shots now. Based on her preseason, it looks like she might have a breakout year, along with Brunson in place of DeMya. Still curious about who gets the start in the backcourt (Smith or Dorrell). The box score seems to indicate that our roster is:

Ticha
Scholanda
Nicole
Rebekkah
Yo

Kristen
Smith
Maiga-Ba
Buescher
Wilkins
(Scott,Jackson, O'Neil, Greenwalt)

IR(or whatever it is now) Kara and DeMya.
It seems like we have enough cap room to carry 11 + 2 on IR. I personally like Jackson or Greenwalt, but it should be interesting to see what cuts are made.

I think that's a fair final 10, I'd give the final active roster spot to Jackson. I thought Scott had already been cut or would have been cut when Augustine left.

I think Greenwalt willl get a spot simply because we need another post player of the "in case of emergencies" variety should the duct tape holding Yo's knee together stop sticking. That post player is just keeping a spot warm for DeMya should she return at some point this season which is why I don't think we'll be trolling the waiver wires for somebody "better" than Greenwalt. I kinda getting excited now....

Also meant to say that I'd give that final regular season spot to either Jackson or O'Neill. I'm leaning more towards Jackson because she can also handle the ball. O'Neill might make more sense if they reallllllllllllllllly aren't sure when Kara is going to be fully recovered enough to play more than cameo minutes. I'd like another outside shooter in her place. Kara's situation makes this last roster spot a serious wildcard because Jackson and O'Neill possess unique qualities but not having Lawson for an unknown period sorta changes the needs this team has in the immediate sense.

What has gotten into Maiga...hitting those outside shots? I love it. That's going to be really important since we don't know when Lawson comes back.

We're alright

I would offer that last spot to a guard because of the precarious situation that Kara is in.

Nicole can post up people and she is big enough to force double teams in the post.
Erin, Bekkah and Yo are doing fine, And Maiga- ba backing folks down low. So We have plenty of people who can hold down the post fort until Demya is back. (3 Weeks knock on wood.)

The Difference is Demya will be back and and relatively healthy.
Z is a month old now, Demya's body is hopefully adjusting with No post partum. My guess is another 3-4 weeks max. But Knowing Demya don't be surprised if She and Lady Z aren't back sooner. Kara is sick and it may take weeks for her to get over it and weeks more for her to get back into basketball shape.

I am no fan of Greenwalt and would have waived her alot sooner except for the fact that we still need extra post bodies in practice. (Ask me how I really feel)

I still prefer O'Neil over Smith but then again I didn't get to see the last 2 games. I think O'Neil is a better shooter and Defender. I am sad about the final 3 guards because I do think they all bring something unique to the table. I really did like Jackson. Scott was nice too.

But with all things being equal I think we have defense. I think he will take O'Neil over Jackson and Scott. Too Bad...

Mama B said something I thought was interesting. She said it was like the Basketball gods were conspiring to not let Kara be a starter. Or something to that effect.

Kara is still a valuable member of the team, and i hope she gets better soon.

Just in case anyone missed it, there is a link on the WNBA Monarchs page to video highlights of the game yesterday.

WOW...Brunson is fired up and ready to go!

Thanks for the heads up. :)

You know...I just read the NM paper article with the Q&A with coach Whiz...did anybody else pick up that he was sounding like he does not expect to get DeMya back this season? He tends to be more realistic in his pronouncements than optimistic generally, so I'm guessing Erin Buescher is going to need to wreak havoc with the minutes she's going to receive.

Yeah, I remember reading that article and I got the feeling that Whiz thought DeMya would be out the whole season. Although I've read other people saying she'd be out the first part and return in the mid-season. I must admit I was worried with Erin being our primary back-up in the post, but she played really well in the preseason.

DeMya will be back this season...the big question will be at what level?

There's no stopping that girl....she'll be back. I just hope She takes her time.

I just get the feeling that we might not know what went on with her delivery. My sense of Whiz over the years is that he shoots very straight, sometimes straighter than I want to hear. I raised an eyebrow when the Bee reported at the start of camp that there was no timetable on DeMya's return. They seemed to have had a time table before she gave birth. Now he's saying in the press that he's preparing as if she might not make it back at all. I'm as hopeful as they come and want to see DeMya in any capacity she can bring, but this just is sounding different than the way it sounded more than a month ago.

In any event, this team showed a remarkable resiliency in the face of adversity throughout their march last year. I just see it as "same story different season." They'll be up to the challenge.

Thank God for Rebecca Brunson!!!

I think she is more than capable to stepping up in Walker's place, especially rebounding and defending. In fact as much as I love DeMya, I don't see much of a drop off in Brunson to be honest. If DeMya comes back, that just strengthens the bench.

Brunson will be an All Star this season!!!

Miss DeMya Too

Rebekkah is looking like she is on her way to All-Star ville.

I am getting concerned about DeMya too. I really hope she is okay. She is the one that Made me fall in love with the Monarch. No it was not Miss Giuliana.

But Depth has to be a concern right now. I guess that was something that we all took for granted. Erin and Wilkins should be able to give us energy off the bench.

Wishing all of our girls the best.
