Monarchs Select LaToya Bond in Dispersal Draft

#2
Interesting move

If we were gonna get a non-scoring guard I would have prefered Butts. I think Bond is suppose to be quick. But at 135 she seems rather slight. Someone that could be pushed around. At least Butts could present a road block for the like of Katie Smith.

But Hey... She could prove very useful. I am trying to remember how she played against us and I don't remember much. I was almost sure Tangie was going to New York. But it will be cool to see her twice a season. Kinda miss ole Tangie. Could be interesting in Minny.

Janel on Center Stage with Becky Hammon that could be interesting too.

I'm done... This move does pave the road for my pick in the Draft and she should be available.

I'm not sure I see too much meaning in this pick, two teams below us passed on drafting anybody. Unless something changes, Bond would seem to me to be battling Chameka Scott for her seat on the bench, with Scott the front runner out the gate because from what Whiz says about Scott, she can fill it up (in her role in practice) and already knows the system.

Then, as a PG, I REALLY don't see much in her that makes me read tea leaves unless she can defend better than Scott or Dorrell. And the latter I place no money on.

We don't need a big body for the likes of Katie Smith, we needed Newton who could have messed with her ability to run the offense. With what we had on the roster, we had Ticha who had been effective against her in some respects when Katie played down at the 2g spot in Minny.

The Sting got stung again!

The Monarchs getting LaToya Bond does come full circle.

Remember when the now-defunct Charlotte Sting traded Nicole Powell, Erin Buescher, and Olympia Scott-Richardson to the Monarchs in exchange for Tangela Smith and the M's 2006 second-round draft pick?

After doing some research, I looked up who the Sting chose for its second-round pick (27th overall). Care to guess who the Sting chose at the time?

Looks like we fleeced the Sting one last time! :)

As that old saying goes: good luck happens when preparation meets opportunity!

Really???

I thought the saying was Luck is nothing more than preparation meeting an opportunity.

Nonetheless we have her... I am surprised the League didn't manage to give Phoenix the #1 pick in the dispersal.

I am still bitter about this. We lose Chelsea to expansion and what for... To have a lazy a** owner fold a team that could have been moved to Chicago. But the silver lining in... Bad Ownership is gone, Trudi Is Gone, Bad Juju... GONE!

We can move on from here.
