SLAB

Hall of Famer
Giants woke up and signed Harrison Bader.

I’m still asleep. Boring uneventful move that moves zero needles. Not like it matters when the Dodgers are in your division.

I don't want to move needles.
I want to move Shohei. Out of Los Angeles.

And the crowd goes mild

That was actually the underwhelming move I thought they would make a couple of years ago.

He did have a really solid 2025 all around but I’m not entirely confident he’ll have another season like that. It was out of the norm for him by pretty much every measure.

But it’s sort of a relief because I was hearing rumblings about a Conforto encore.

I mean Bader is a major defensive CFer, but missing out on a Bichette or other big bats hurts. Not to mention they are banking on previously oft injured pitchers as the big signings. Hope is a terrible plan. Still Houser was excellent last year, but if you go look up his career year by year, he’s more than likely going on the IR at some point.

Geez, do they take a swing at Framber? Surely his asking price has gone way down

In totality, the moves the Giants made are what you'd see a contender do (Non-Dodgers included), to shore up the back-end of their squad. Mahle, if healthy and Houser will absolutely be upgrades at the back-end rotation spots. Bader is a massive defensive upgrade over I believe the worst defensive outfield and he did have a good offensive year last year (although some stats suggests he got pretty lucky overall).

But none of this takes us from an 81 win squad to a 95 win squad we need to be at to contend. This probably gets us to 85-86 win type team. Which is just... eh? Ok who cares?

Where can we stream mlb.tv? Last year was on Prime but now I don’t know where to go.

Isn't it just a service that you pay for? It's always been its own website in the past -- or at least up until 2023 when I stopped watching.

Yes, but Prime streamed it since youtubetv didn’t carry any package.

I guess the question is who is carrying a baseball package?

Things seem complicated this year. ESPN and MLB are teamed up here. If I understand right, "autorenewals" of MLB.TV still go through MLB.com, but new purchases have to be through ESPN.

I did download the mlb app on my Samsung tv. It does use the mlb.tv login. Today I will fiddle around with the account or settings and I’ll see if I can watch a game.

I loathe the strike zone graphic on the screen. When networks started doing it, I couldn't watch games on those channels anymore. It's bad enough to put a graphic on the focal point of the screen, but the graphic doesn't even represent the strike zone. So get rid of the rectangle and put the pitch speed off to the side by the score. I don't understand how that rectangle took over.
