Martin - Is he IN or is he OUT?

Kingster

Hall of Famer
Does he want to be here or not? Is he just in a shooting slump, or is deeper than that? The play that sticks in my mind was when he grabbed the ball in the San Antonio game and threw it to Hawes, who made a beautiful running reverse pivot move for a layup. A TO is called and Hawes comes running to the bench. Hawes looks to acknowledge Martin for the pass with a slap of the hand. Martin ignores him, involved in his own **** and mutters the F bomb. He seemed so unhappy, either with his own play, or with something else, that he couldn't be excited that Hawes just made a play to help them win.

I remember seeing that. It was literally the possession after Kevin blew the layup and started getting boo'd. I doubt that has anything to do with the play you're referring to. My guess would be that he was pissed he missed that layup and the crowd was booing.

I think you're making soomething out of nothing. Kevin might not be happy, but what you're referring to was a reaction to the blown layup.

I think it has to be tough for Kevin, for sure. He had the big contract, he talked of wanting to be the leader, and was certainly a Sacramento favorite. This year has not gone well for him. An injury a couple days into the season allowed the youth to gel without him, and now he's trying to fit in amidst all the trade talk and the fact that this will be, or is, "Tyreke's team" now.

To be fair, I don't think he's given up on the Kings. I think the fans may have given up on him for reasons that are partly his doing, but mostly not. It's like hiring a contemporary only to learn he is your replacement.

For the most part, I think Kevin is more down on himself than anything. I know sometimes, it looks like your pi**ed off at everybody but it's just frustration with yourself. He needs to suck it up and I doubt he'll be in a funk forever. He's too good of a shooter.
That said, I'm sure he knows he's on the trading block and it's affecting him also.

Yeah but as a professional I'm sure he understands, if we're not winning and he isn't helping he is too a big contract to be kept around if it doesn't make us better. It's all part of the business, if trading him is going to make us better than a scenario where he and Evans can play together we should still trade him.

I think ANYTHING Kevin does from now till next year really will get scrutinized and looked at time and time again. He is in a slump, he's not playing well, and he probably isn't too sure about his future right about now. Or on the other hand, it's possible he's trying to play his way off the team. Either way he needs to play better B4 Petrie would even chance trading Martin unless some trading partner came in with a bid that was of value in the position of a center who plays defense. It would have to be a pretty good offer for Petrie because although the Kings need a center who can play defense, you rarely find scorers like a K-Mart when he is right. Petrie needs to see how Kevin and Tyreke play long term. Probably into the off season before Petrie has to make that choice. In fact, the Kings have plenty of assets to bring in a defensive center with the pieces they have already not counting Martin.
