1. Developing a stingy defense in the NFL is a tricky business. It takes the perfect balance of speed and physicality to stop the league's most sophisticated offensive attacks. But according to the members of the Vikings' secondary, the key to the team's eighth-ranked pass defense has been a little less about scheme and talent and a little more about Merlot and Pinot Noir. Terence Newman, Captain Munnerlyn and other members of Minnesota's defensive backfield have recently begun to dabble in wine connoisseurship, a pastime to which they attribute much of their recent success. "Whatever you're doing, drink some red wine and you'll do better," says Munnerlyn. Funny. The members of the newsroom here came to the exact opposite conclusion. 2. For the most part, the NBA is great at celebrating the holidays. The league schedules a terrific slate of games every Christmas. It absolutely nailed the holiday-themed jerseys this year. And who can forget 2014's brilliant Santa press conference. That said, the league absolutely airballed on these player elves for sale on the NBA's online store. Take a look . Three major issues here: 1) Aside from the uniforms, the players look comically unlike themselves 2) They have disturbingly misshapen bodies and 3) They don't even have elf ears. 3. Speaking of holidays - and ears, for that matter - the Bulls invited the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra to play at one of this week's practices. The talented group of youngsters performed "Sleigh Ride" while the team scrimmaged, resulting in one of the better sports-related YouTube videos in recent history. Check it out . Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "shooting in rhythm."
