List heads up for TV, radio, news stories here

Great idea. Maybe you should drop a line to Terri Hardy at the Bee. I think she was the one Warhawk sent an email to who said she had a couple of arena stories she was working on...
On Saturday, Jim Crandell mentioned on his KHTK show that Mark Demsky went to San Francisco this past Wednesday to talk to business owners and the community about how their new ballpark helped in the development of their area. It will air on Monday night's news.

Great. Every possible way to show the positive side of this project is going to need to be addressed before November.

EDIT: Once again, I've taken something from one thread and put it in it's own thread so no one will miss it. Maybe this could be the designated thread for "heads up" about upcoming news stories, features, etc. on all the various channels.

I wonder how long it will be before the commercials start and this is headline news on kcra, ktxl, kovr, news10 etc. We need this to start getting on consistently in the HEADLINES.

I lived in the Bay Area when Pac Bell Park was being constructed, so I know exactly what that area looked like before it was built. Anyone who has been to a game at the ball park knows that part of town is pretty cool. It used to be a wasteland of light industrial, warehouses, and undeveloped contaminated properties. It really is your case history for waht a ball park can potentiall do to an area....Obviously, that was privately financed....

Hmm...sounds kinda familiar, huh?:D

Just saw a teaser for the story that will air on FOX 40 with Demsky. It will be aired during the sports segment around the 10:50 p.m. mark.

So, did anyone besides me watch the story?

Demsky did an excellent job as he talked to the mayor of San Francisco, business owners (including one who was the only business there before the new ballpark was constructed), fans (both die-hard and casual) and your average person off the street just having a good time with what was there to offer.

I also liked his closing images of how the San Francisco China Basin used to look like (empty and ugly like our downtown rail yard) and how it looks today (full of people having a good time).

It would be nice if they could air those things when people might actually watch them.

Nice to know he did it. Hopefully the other channels will decide to do similar things - and maybe at more reasonable times.

I watched it. Very good story. Sometimes you wonder how somebody who has a phd can argue away at a point that everyone can plainly see is exactly the opposite.
I loved this statement: "We've taken in an additional $500 million dollars in tax revenue from all the new development surrounding the ball park in the last 6 years".
Hey, that's a big number. ;)

I just e-mailed Demsky about the possibility of replaying that story during the top of the hour when more people will be watching, especially non sports fans.

I also liked Demsky talking to a guy who got a job as a bartender because he needed a job to help raise his daughter. He's been doing his job for years now and loves it. Demsky also spoke with an older woman and I wish I could remember her comments but she spoke positive about the ballpark and what it brought. There was a word she used that summed it up nicely and I cannot remember what it was.

Was that the number from the property tax? I knew I should have taken some notes. :D

Since I didn't see the piece, I can't be sure but my guess would be a combination of property taxes, business taxes, sales taxes, etc.

FYI,
I just sent Mark Demsky an email asking him to put the story up on the Fox 40 website.

A few months back, Voisin (I think) did a great piece about San Antonio and what the new arena meant to them. I think I'll drop her an email.

:)

Ok, since I still had it in my Tivo buffer, here is what Michael Cohen from the mayor of San Franciscso's office stated:
"Just from a property tax perspective alone in this area, the property taxes have gone up over 500 million since the ballpark opened in 2000".

As the great Homer Jay Simpson would say, "Woohoo! In your face!"

In other words, I was right. :D

I just e-mailed Brian May and Ryan Yamamoto. It's times like this I wish I still had e-mail addresses of others I know in the media.

This needs to go with the education points somewhere.

I watched the piece, too, and it was very well done, diverse viewpoints that come to the same conclusion, and solid, UNDENIABLE message.

What we'll do, 1kf, is wait until the piece is posted on Ch. 40 and then put the link into the "education point" thread. From what I've heard so far, the whole piece is worth sharing.

:)

Just sent the email to Voisin. We'll see what happens.

Yeah I saw the piece too. The first thing I thought was I wish this would be on at a different time than the 10:50pm sports segment.
