I know this is coming a few days late, but since there are some non-Sacramento residents here on this board, I thought I'd share these two "Letters To The Sports Editor" from last Sunday's (Aug. 28th) Sacramento Bee sports pages:
Fanfare: Monarchs story merited spot on front of section
Published 2:15 am PDT Sunday, August 28, 2005
As a Monarchs fan, imagine my dismay when my eyes fell on a large color photo of a Green Bay Packer on the front page (Aug. 21). Am I in Green Bay, Wisconsin?
Please give the Monarchs the coverage they deserve. For this fan and many others, it was sad to see news of their Aug. 20 victory over Seattle relegated to page C7. In addition to having the best season in franchise history, the Monarchs retired Ruthie Bolton's No. 6 jersey. Wasn't this event worthy of front-page coverage? - Sally Verdin, Sacramento
Historic event in city
I was disappointed that last Sunday's article on the retirement of Ruthie Bolton's jersey and Bolton's photo were not on the front page of the sports section. This was a historic event in the WNBA and Sacramento sports. Shame on you for not giving it the recognition it deserved. - Debbie Wender, Sacramento

[StevenHW speaking]:
Regarding Debbie's letter, the SacBee article on Ruthie's jersey being retired did appear on Page 5, and took up a good portion of that entire page space, along with other WNBA news.
But that first letter is correct, why the Green Bay Packers photo on the front page of the Sports section? I realize that the NFL's pre-season was going on at the time, and I could at least understand if the Sacbee ran a photo of the 49ers or Raiders training camp...but the Packers?![Confused  ](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
