They've actually made some strides this summer. One can only hope they keep improving. On top of the Kwame Brown acquisition, they got rid of Atkins too. Brown has a lot of upside, and history has suggested that it takes about 4 years for a highschool kid to start blossoming. Brown might be a headcase but he's due for a breakout year. I believe he will have one. As mentioned by other posters, 12/8 would be a very welcome stat line from him. He has the potential to be something special. People believing that he will keep being a bust actually have a valid point. One thing I do know, he is very excited, motivated, and wanting to prove people wrong about him. The Lakers will have to use that to their advantage.

This move by Kupchak actually reminds me of the kind of risk Jerry West used to take.

No, it's just the idea that the Lakers got someone we wanted - and Phil Jackson is once again in his rightful spot.

At least that's how I feel - and I suspect bdouble013 is feeling the same thing.

It's like the year of "Dallas" that was so bad they had to write it off by making it all a dream.

Oh, I didn't know you guys wanted Kwame. What do you think of his career thus far, his game/upside, and what it's going to be like for him as a Laker? A lot of Lakers fans blamed Mitch for this move, saying he should be fired. I for one disagree but it would be interesting to see how fans of other teams feel about the challenge the Kwame is facing in terms of his career and his new team.

this is definitely a wait and see.... if they dump grant and sign daniels they'll be a lesser version of the sonics with a better coach.... i still think that the kings are a better team but damn, i wanted brown to be a bust in sacramento..... lol....

A lot of us were willing at this point to take a chance of Kwame, to see if he could turn his career around here in Sacramento. I don't know how he'll work in LA, but quite frankly I don't think he needs MORE pressure, which is what he'll undoubtedly get on your team.

If he could succeed, I'd think it would be in a more friendly atmosphere...but who knows?

We were looking at him because when you're in the situation we're in you might as well take the long shot.

Atkins is subtraction by addition. Losing him makes the team better, as long as they replace him with someone that can move laterally.

And while I'm (cautiously) optimistic about this trade, it's going to take a great acquisition at one of the guard spots (preferably PG) for the Lakers to be back in business. And I don't think Daniels is that acquisition (good player certainly, but I'm talking real impact, especially defensively).

I think he is the best available out there and his acquisition is still within the program of the '07 cap dream. He should help.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Kwame and figure if any coach can get him to show something, it'll be PJ. I'll miss Caron though.
