Don't mean to cause panic or joy but Mayor Kevin Johnson just left podium of presser to take phone call.

Mayor KJ still on phone in his car. Not sure why yet, but he left in middle of railyards presser to take private call

Mayor came out of car smiling. Will address the media here in a moment.

Mayor would not say who he spoke to- only that it was a "private" call. When asked if it was NBA David Stern- "I refuse to comment"

As @Ryan_Lillis stated: In the three years we've been covering @KJ_MayorJohnson, he has never left press conf to take a phone call.

@CarmichaelDave

Mayor KJ left presser to take call informing him he could save 15% or more on team insurance by switching to Burkle.

It's like a present under the tree but being told you have to wait until you can open it--assuming of course that the call was regarding Kings news.

It's like a present that has a 90% chance of being something really great (sell or one more year) or a 10% chance of being a lump of coal (Magoofs filed).

Man this age of news updates by the minute is really nerve racking. I kind of miss the old days when you got your updates once a day in the paper or nightly news.

I second that. Life or death seems to fluctuate from 4 hour cycle to 4 hour cycle. At least here it does.

Grant is opening the show with the Spurs game.. Don't think any news is coming today.

What about that Spurs game last night btw? yikes.

Is it possible that they could just come out and say Ron Burkle has bought the Kings under a guided deal by the NBA to relieve the Maloofs of ownership due to bad faith?

Or does there have to be a bigger process with more public offers?

Me too. I expect that the league told the Kings to stay, so I'm being greedy and hoping this news is about Burkle.

Greedy is the operative word but that would be perfect.

Then the NBA has to give us a chance and introduce mega revenue sharing. The arena is necessary but in my ignorance, I am not sure where this will bring all the money. If present suites are not sold out, why will having more suites add anything? Sacramento is still a town without a lot of corporations and that's the way it is. I get the idea it will help downtown Sacramento.

Nope. Could just sell to him or he could just finance one of the minority owners to purchase the majority share.

It's a partnership. The managing partners could have a 1% interest and still manage the team. To change the managership, the partnership agreement would have to be re-written.
