[Game] Kings vs Spurs 2/4/11 Game Thread

The Game Thread Dude
Whilst doing research for whatever I was going to write for this post, I encountered a post that made me scratch my head like a dog with fleas. The basic message of it: DeMarcus Cousins is playing worse than Tiago Splitter. Having no come back for that, I will simply leave that there

Remember when we were drooling over the insurmountable undersized bigboy DeJuan Blair? What ever happened to that? While he's been a sturdy player for them this season, Blair has yet to have as much of an impact (in my eyes at least) as he did last season. Now, of course, he's playing on a team where he is just about the last option on offense, but still he's 50000 times better than DeMarcus Cousins, which prompted several boisterous Spurs fans to claim that he is going to "beast" on DeMarcus.

I'm starting to get the resounding impression that Spurs fans underestimate Boogie.

On the other hand, you can't say enough about Timmy D. Several millenia old and still managing to produce at a solid rate while resting up for the big playoff push. Now old and hobbled, he's essentially become tall post-surgery C-Webb for the Spurs, that is, to say, the star of the team despite others really taking the lead. How far the Spurs get in the playoffs will hinge on his ability to be himself in May/June. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that age never diminishes skill like it does athleticism (Keep that in mind, DeMarcus).

Now lets talk about us, shall we?

We played a tough game against the Celtics (a team that played a bit dirtier than I remembered) but, in the end, our 23 turnovers were too much for this young team to overcome. Still though, the team certainly made a nice effort and gave the fans quite the show. I would have preferred it if DeMarcus had shown up for the first half though.

With all the talk about Blake Griffin and his spot on the all-star team as a "rookie" (he's not), one's mind has to turn to the best rookie big man who is actually a rookie. One of the great things about DeMarcus is his amazing b-ball IQ. You can literally see him growing before your eyes during a game. Nowhere else was this clearer than the Celtics game. In the first half, the Celtics did a great job of simply pushing him around (which is admittedly easier to do when you have the one guy in the league who is big enough to be a Decepticon) with their collection of good post defenders (Perkins in particular did a sound job of just annoying him) and by being total ****s. This is probably where the DeMarcus of two months ago would have folded and called it a night. New DeMarcus, however, retaliated (and by retaliate, I don't mean pulled a RonRon) with a stronger 2nd half. Realizing that the Celtics were literally going to muscle him out of the post with all of their might, he began playing a finesse game of jumpers which helped unlock other aspects of his game, netting him a cool 20 pts on the night.

One thing I don't like, though, is his sudden aversion to rebounding.

San Antonio will be entering Arco with tired legs due to last night's [buzzer beater] win against the Lakers. If the Kings play a good game (control their TOs and PFs, pass the ball, play some D and make some shots) they can beat the Spurs. Hopefully they understand what did them in vs. the Celtics and improve their game tonight. Go Kings!!

It will take 48 minutes of the Kings A game to have a chance at beating the Spurs. Stranger htings have happened!

This is a team that can play with anyone but they rarely put together a mistake-free 48 minutes and the best teams make you pay more for those mistakes. We made too many against Boston and San Antonio is probably even tougher right now. Also we strangely seem to play worse when we've had more time off between games so I'm not too optimistic but at the same time I wouldn't be shocked if we did win.

I loved Blair before he was drafted, and still do. What exactly did we do with that 2nd rounder? It's blowin in the wind. He would have been a very nice addition to this team. Cousins, Blair, and Tyreke - that's some beef!:D

This is another "learning experience" game for the Kings. I love these games. What would they learn against Cleveland - how to not show up? Not only do they go against a great team, but they go against a great coach. It will be interesting to see what Pop sees as the major weaknesses and how he goes at them. SA has too much quickness and craftiness in their backcourt. Beno is going to have some issues. So it's up to the frontcourt to make it messy and physical for SA. When the Kings get more experienced they are going to learn how to use their strength in crafty little ways to make it even more difficult for the opposing team. That's down the line...

their steller guard play is what is propelling them this season. Duncans averaging his worst stats across the board and manu and tony are playing the most mins they have in their careers. We have to play well on the perimeter as well as holding down the inside to have a chance here

AT&T Uverse is blacking out this game. Does anyone else have AT&T Uverse and are you experiencing the same problem? Any idea when/if the channel will be un-blocked?
