Wow. Well ... wow.

I won't bother to say too much more. I pretty much said it all last night as I tried to digest the end of an era. I've done that now and all I want to is THANK Jason Williams, Vlade Divac and Chris Webber for what they did for this franchise. Regardless of how you may have felt about any or all them, because of their arrival this franchise started a turnaround that took this team and us, the fans, to heights we had never before attained and we owe them a HUGE debt of gratitude. That's all I'm going to say because as much as it hurts me personally, the team goes on...and I LOVE THIS TEAM!

Tonight's game has got to be disappointing for TNT. After picking Dirk and Chris to tout the BIG rivalry week game, they get the rug pulled out from under them in a MAJOR way by that trade.

I will, as always, be here to do the play-by-play. Quite frankly, I don't see the Kings being able to pull it out but I'm going to be rooting for them anyway. As much as we're feeling the loss (at least some of us), my heart goes out to the rest of the team. For better or worse, everything had been revolving around Webber. He leaves an immense gap in our offense both in scoring and ball movement that is going to be very hard for them to step up and repair, especially on the road for the next games.

Anyway, I have a lot fewer totems to worry about now. In what could only be called cosmic irony, one of my purple slippers was damaged beyond repair when the edge of it was caught by my vacuum cleaner. It was hand-crocheted and ... well, you don't want to know the details. They're not pleasant. Let's just say the slipper was under something so the WHOLE slipper wasn't able to move and something had to give. :(

As well as the PBP thread, we have the game discussion thread generally started by piksi for you to use during the game if you want to talk with fellow Kings fans as the game goes on. If you're new here, be sure and check it out. I ask that people not use THIS thread for ongoing discussions, etc. as I do it as a service for our members who cannot see or hear the game. We also have chat at mIRC, server: irc.bludgeon.org, channel: #KingsFans. There is also live radio feed from www.thegamelive.com, but it is generally NOT Kings broadcasters as KTHK does not have internet broadcasting. It is, instead, from the other teams' broadcasters which some people enjoy but others find very annoying. The main thing is we give you choice!!!

Now, I have things to do before the game. For one, I have to talk Kingsgirl4 out of moving to Philadelphia.

See you all back here before the game. If this thread gets buried because of all the activity, an occasional bump would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Now and forever,

GO KINGS!!!!!

It was those three who got it started, red. Doug didn't show up until later, when we got him for Corliss Williamson, freeing up the SF slot for Peja to become an actual part of the starting five.

I mentioned it somewhere last night, but I still remember the first home game in the shortened season. I was listening to it on the radio. We, with Jason, Vlade and Webber in Kings uniforms for the first time at Arco, faced the Grizzlies. And WE WON! WE had lost the first game to the Spurs in San Antonio, so to have the first home game be a win was wonderful. I remember to this day a couple of Jason's passes that had Gary Gerould's voice higher than usual with excitement. And it was clear they were having FUN!!! It was the start of something special, something we watched and lived through for a long time, especially long in the NBA scheme of things. Now, that era is gone and a new one has begun. I can only hope and pray it will bring us as much excitement and enjoyment as the last one did.

Thanks, Prophetess. I'm not worried about tonight's game although I'm sure the TNT commentators are going to have me ready to consume massive quantities of alcohol, which I do not do. What I'm worried about is Saturday. I honestly don't know if I'll be doing the play-by-play for that game. It's just a little too soon.

GO KINGS!!!!!

Yeah, Saturday is way too soon. It will be hard to watch. I will obviously be rooting for the team, but I hope Webb does well too.:)

DAvid Aldridge is on the TNT pre-game show. He said he talked to Joe Maloof and came away with the conviction that this was done because of Webber's salary. He said that Maloof told him they were looking realistically at their situation and how, in two years, Webber's salary would account for 35% of their salary cap. He said Maloof said it was really tough, but that considering Webber's value would most likely never be higher for trading, they had to do what they could do or be faced with not being able to make any moves to make the team better.

Did you hear what Kenny Smith said? He said something like you'll never hear this word with the Kings ever again...contender. Then Cahrles Barkley says that the Kings were never contenders, but Smith said they were.

Webber's value will never be higher for trading, but they traded him for NOTHING close to what he's worth.

Summary: Howard got the board on the Darius miss and went all the way, finishing with a real authoritative dunk. That got the crowd going and got the Kings a little flustered. The one thing IMHO they're going to have to REALLY concentrate on tonight is focus and not getting drawn into the Mavericks pace. We only have three players on the bench - Tag, House and Martin - so we can't play run out ball and expect to have anything left by the fourth quarter.
