Hmmm seems like a trend here.
Colby Jones 6'6 (guard/)wing
Jalen Slawson 6'7 wing
Kessler Edwards 6'7 wing
Wouldn't picking up option give us bird rights?
Could we be using his salary as outgoing salary for a trade?
Because Hollinger is an idiot. There is a reason he is not part of a front office.I think the simple answer is that the Kings are hopeful about Edwards and want to guarantee that they keep him, possibly long term. I'm not sure why Hollinger is "surprised" by this move.

That's actually a great point about Barnes - he's very tradeable. There will always be a market for a player like Barnes - especially around the trade deadline as teams gear up for a playoff run.I'm still wondering if the front office is thinking about next year. The problem with the Richaun Holmes contract was that he had a player option for 2024-2025 and wasn't playing so it was difficult to determine how willing he would be to pick up that option. It could be they've tested the waters on this year's free agents and everybody is of course asking for the world and none of them are worth that. Even if Barnes is re-signed, I would think he'd still be tradeable if we wanted to go after one of the bigger names in the 2024 class -- which includes OG Anunoby who Monte obviously wants.
Who'd you save first if they all fell in a lake?John Hollinger is just a wet fish man. Him Nate Duncan, Danny Leroux can all jump in a lake as far as I'm concerned.
If $800K costs us somebody, so be it. I want to be sure I keep the young player that showed real promise in a limited sample with no training camp with my team. Especially when we don't have a FRP next year and passed on one this year. That youth infusion matters.

I think it means he’s a RFA next year so you’d have a bit more control if he breaks out this year vs. if he was a UFA next year.Is there any advantages to picking up the option versus decline and sign? Risk of losing him? If we sign him to a one year deal we would not have his bird rights but we will with his current deal right?

Good. We paid like nothign upfront for Edwards in trade right? so if it costs us whatever little amount of space this summer to keep that bet for the future riding thats not much risk at all.
Edwards is positionally flexibile, he's still young, he's got long arms, he could be worth that deal and then some if we sustain big injuries, so he's well worth it.
