Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins suffered a right ankle sprain Sunday vs. Golden State that forced him to miss Tuesday's game against Oklahoma City. When Cousins was asked if he would play in Friday's contest against the Los Angeles Lakers, he jokingly responded (via News10's Sean Cunningham), "probably not, think I'll be out rest of the season and I can get a comeback commercial." Man, Bulls fans sure are touchy... That said, it's a little tough to give Cousins the benefit of the doubt here: you weren't talking about Rose? Sure you weren't.

The problem here isn't with Demarcus and what he might or might not have said. The problem is with the tendency of some newscasters to take to Twitter to share way too much. Stuff like this gets said every single day of the week by any number of players. It generally isn't passed on, but in what has become a tempest in a teapot moment, Sean Cunningham decided to put something out on Twitter that wasn't in the context of an official interview.

I'm really getting tired of "gotcha" journalism at all levels. These players need to be able to joke around without thinking every single thing they say could end up being taken out of context and immediately spread to the world. If "reporters" keep doing stuff like this they're going to find that none of the players feel comfortable around them.

Was he referring to Rose? Sure. Did he intentionally make the comment as a dig at Rose? I doubt it. If I had to guess, based on the vast amount of similarities between my life and background and that of Demarcus Cousins, I'd say that he was making a joke about the circumstance more than the person.
