Absolutely awesome of the organization to do this. Makes me consider making a trip to Sac to join a watch party!! These will be a packed house guaranteed!

I remember during the last run they opened Arco to playoff game view parties. However, iirc, they charged 5-10 bucks or something.

Will be interesting when the schedules are posted, would increase my likelihood if my mom is in town that I could come down to visit with a guaranteed watch party, and stay a few extra days and try to get a ticket to a game 5, 7, or 3 in round 2 but wouldn't be a total loss if it didn't happen. And hopefully a road game means a beam lighting :D

also I hate to even acknowledge this but if we make it to round 2 and things go chalk, despite the bump in ticket prices they might be easier to come by if we are playing Memphis.

If the Kings want to play Warriors in the 1st round, then the chance is greater if they lose the game to the Warriors on Friday...like 90% chance.
If the Kings want to play the Lakers in the 1st round, then they must beat the Warriors on Friday and Warriors could lose the final game @Portland.

The reason I predicted that is because I think the Clippers will win out the next two especially because the Suns are resting their starters. Also, the Suns would rather face Clippers than the Warriors...so by losing to the Clippers, they ensure Clippers stay at the #5 seed.

On Friday, April 14, the team will tip-off the Playoffs celebration with the opening of the Kings Playoffs Playground, presented by Kaiser Permanente, located at Ali Youssefi Square near the intersection of K and 7th Streets. This free fan zone will provide guests the opportunity to test their basketball skills, create a one-of-a-kind commemorative action figure of themselves in Kings gear, take a photo with the famed 6th Man Statue (formerly located at ARCO Arena), capture a video of themselves lighting the beam and make a custom cheer card.

I was wondering where that was going to be placed. I wonder if that is the permanent location?

IIRC there was quite a bit of turnover in social media and fan engagement last summer and folks were steamed about it, but in addition to the team's on court play they seem to pretty much continuously be hitting it out of the park. Obviously you can't have a beam or playoff parties without results, but it really seems they are doing things next level. I thought the Pritchard era in Portland was a masterclass on how to rebuild a fanbase after the jailblazers era but it was nothing like this, just to see how Kings are taking off - even if just going by hearing light the beam chants in every visiting arena.

I love the sound of the "Playoffs Playground" - honestly - this is just one more reason to entice me down for a visit. My son would LOOOOVE the action figure. This just sounds amazing.

Somebody needs a huge raise. City tourism board should chip in.

lol the Maloofs were down bad. I'll definitely go to a watch party, especially if we have a chance to put a team away on the road. I totally trust us in that situation at this point

Down, bad, and dumb. They'd have made more money making it free and just selling concessions. If people go for free they justify spending $25 on a rum and coke. "Hey I'm in for free anyway!".

Some of the dumbest hospitality industry people I've ever seen. You felt like every little decision was argued over on family Sunday meetings. Remember their "we don't make any decisions unless they are unanimous" trope? Glad everyone signed off on nickle and diming the fan base!

Kings are going to make a ton of money off these free watch parties. But also they'll build goodwill with the fanbase which is far more valuable from a business standpoint. If the Maloofs had known business at all - that's actually a line item in the valuation of a business - "goodwill". They spent nearly all of it converting it to cash in their pocket.

Edit: Ha. I'm still thinking about this. How much do you think a bar makes in a night? Do they charge a cover? Most don't. What maybe 500 people headcount in an average bar over the course of a Friday night? Average spend $40? That's twenty grand. There will be ~20k fans with say 10k drinking and eating. Average spend $50 (being conservative here). Half a mil. That'll keep the lights on. Plus sales on gear and other items. 750k - 1m in revenue I'd project as a conservative estimate for one of these events. It's they playoffs so people will be spending more to ensure they have a good time. Plus the building of goodwill and memories? Priceless. It's both a good business decision and simply the right thing to do.

If you don't have tickets, here's a cool officially sanctioned alternative

I just received an email with the same information from the Kings - not going to post the link because it doesn't work without the embedded tracking data identifying *me* as having clicked it, but I'll try to post a screenshot when I get a chance. The website oddly has an RSVP button, but also says that it is standing room only, first come, first serve so it seems kind of hastily slapped together.

Took the family into DOCO tonight to get the playoff vibe going and the atmosphere around the arena was electric! We just missed the official rally but arrived in time to snag some free car flags they were passing out. So much Kings gear…EVERYWHERE! The new Kings locker room store attached to Lids store just opened up today and the line to get in wrapped around the store. Shelves were getting cleaned up. We walked around the arena and tried to get into the “playoff playground” area. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize a reservation was required and although a standby line was available we gave up after waiting 15 minutes when we realized it was going to take over an hour to get in. That was disappointing, but it was fun just seeing all the people out and about in Kings attire. We’ve waited a long time for this and it’s finally here. Tomorrow, I’ll venture back to G1C with my 17 year old son to create a core memory that will last him the rest of his life, just as my father did with me at the same age in 1996 when he took me to game 3 of the Kings vs Seattle playoffs at the old ARCO. Win or lose tomorrow, I’m going to enjoy the ride and soak in the atmosphere, energy and passion that comes with being a fan of this team. Let’s go Kings! Beat the Dubs! Light the Beam!

I'll be watching game 3 in the stands in SF. Hopefully some folks will also take advantage of the (relatively) cheap ticket prices and maybe see the Kings go to 3-0 in the series.
