EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson had replacement surgery on his left hip Tuesday, eight months after his right one was replaced.

The 61-year-old coach was expected to be released from Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood within a day, the team said. He most likely will be fully recovered for his induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame in September.

He was walking with a cane within a week of his right hip replacement in October, but didn't travel with the Lakers for the first month of the season and then sat on a special chair during games.
Jackson recently completed his eighth season as coach of the Lakers, who finished 42-40 and lost to Phoenix in the first round of the playoffs.
