Since today is WNBA Draft Day. I got to thinking that it has been two years since the Sacramento Monarchs selected Chantelle Anderson with the second pick of the 2003 Draft. To really put this into context. Those that were drafted after Chantelle were players such as:

Cheryl Ford
Plenette Pierson

Others that were drafted #2 in past WNBA Drafts were:
Isabelle Fijikowski - 97
Ticha Penechero - 98
Yolanda Griffith - 99
Tausha Mills - 00
Kelly Miller - 01
Swin Cash - 02
Alana Beard - 04

My question is where does Chantelle Anderson fit in in the landscape of the Monarch's future. She is entering her third season, in my opinion at the crossroad of any athlete's future. Is she closer to Yolanda Griffith, Ticha, Swin Cash and other successful #2 picks? Or is she more Isabelle Fijikowski and Tausha Mills. Can Chantelle Anderson be the replacement for Yo when Yo decides to hang them up?

I think of all the other #2 picks Chantelle is like Kelly Miller. She just needs to be on a team where she'll get some quality minutes to actually show what she can do. Whether that opportunity is in Sac, we shall see...

I have no idea. Chantelle should be much better than she has shown. My only question is....does she get enough minutes to show what she can do?

She's not a cornerstone player, she's like Ann Wauters in that slow draft year. She should get to a point that she gives you quality minutes when she's on the floor, but she's not a missing piece to the extent that Griffith or Cash or etc is. I think she's had a decent shot here last year, but when I saw her I rarely saw her give quality minutes and I'm not sure if it was the knee thing or what. She's got to become better on the defensive end of the floor and stop racking up a foul a minute. Offensively she's got to get back to being as automatic as she was at Vandy if she got a touch on the low blocks. She's shown flashes of that in the few minutes she got her rookie year - I just need to see more of it from her this year.

With that said, if she is still on this roster opening day, she had better start producing.

Yes, I forgot to mention that. She will never be a cornerstone player, but she is capable of producing a lot more than she has shown.
