And as a type 1 diabetic you know heart disease sort of goes with territory without being self-inflicted. Had a stent nearly twenty years ago. My doctor said by the book I shouldn't have any heart disease, wasn't overweight and in fairly decent shape, but he continued saying diabetics don't go by the book. Good thing nobody jumped to any conclusions early.
It just means nothing will happen till March 22. Doesn't mean he didn't fail the tests and fail his probation.
At this point, I'm just going to wait and see what happens. Lawson deserves the benefit of the doubt just like anyone else.

He was never brought to a judge for a warrant. For the record, I am an alcoholic who happens to be a psychiatrist. That's an MD type person with 12 years of education post high school. I have experienced alcoholism and treated it. I have treated drug abusers on up to heroin abusers in a methadone clinic. I have treated court ordered people who were diagnosed by the legal system and wasted a lot of time on someone who could not benefit from treatment because he/she didn't need it. I have seen no data that says Ty is an alcoholic. He was arrested for drunk driving unless I am missing something. I probably am.
I have no compassion for drunk drivers. It's a choice. If anyone thinks drinking to the point of alcoholism is a choice, think again. I went down the typical jock route. I got bombed after games and had a great time. I drove drunk. By the simple definition that an alcoholic is someone whose drinking causes him a trouble in life, there are a lot of alcoholics on this forum. How many of you have driven drunk? I evolved into something worse from what I, perhaps with some denial involved, gradually switched from a post game drinker to an everyday drinker. .

That's a good article. Thanks Does he sound like a man of bad character? I am addressing this to anyone interested. He needs a baby sitter of sorts but ultimately he will sink or swim on his own. It ain't easy. I wish him luck as a human being. Is this a man of poor character? It's something to debate about and ultimately it will be Vivek/Vlade's decision.
If you judge him as having a bad character because he is an alcoholic, a person who is a bad influence on the team, you would consider me such also. It's not so cut and dried especially if whatever TMZ thinks he did doesn't involve substance use. Some people are irresponsible and that can be part of alcoholism, of course, but it also can be just the way it is with this individual.
I find people who are involved in a 3 AM fight on the streets of New York as more of a problem. It is no way of preparing for the next game and THAT is a problem with at least two of the ex-Kings contribution to the Kings' culture.

I am a huge Boogie fan unless your memory is like mine. I was shocked he was on the streets of New York at that hour although there is no way of knowing what he does late at night. I'm not sure I want my team leader doing that. I honestly don't get your point vis a vis me.
Addendum: I don't look past early morning tussles that end in punches being thrown and perhaps that was the straw that broke Vlade's back as both parties are gone.

I don't know him so I cannot judge his character. I do not think he's a bad person, however. I think he has demons he needs help dealing with. I'm hoping the whole thing is a tempest in a teapot.
As far as the 3 a.m. thing goes? It was midnight California time, which is barely evening for people whose work schedules are as complicated as NBA players.
You made a good point, however. It's not my decision to make. That task falls on the shoulders of Vlade and Vivek and the rest of the owners...and for that I am grateful. I wouldn't want to have that kind of power/responsibility.

Sounds like the previous judge did him a favor with the sentencing so I'm sure they won't take to kindly to him breaking the terms of his probation.
I'm still very confused about what is going on here. The March 22nd court date does not appear to have been set in response to Lawson's alleged probation violations - it is the last date of his probation sentence and was presumably set a year ago. Furthermore, if Lawson violated his probation twice back in September, why would officials wait until two weeks before the end of his probation to do anything about it? I feel like we have a poor understanding of what is actually going on, and that there is either misinformation or missing information to blame for that poor understanding.

i have no problem with lawson drinking or drinking regularly as long as:
a) it doesn't affect his performance on court or his commitments to the team
b) he doesnt put himself in a position to harm others
this whole thing is where it is because of his probation order which doesnt acknowledge the fact that Lawson is a functioning alcoholic. The court wants him to cut alcohol out of his life which simply isnt going to happen, we are talking about one of the most socially acceptable drugs in society here. Simply put the system is setting him up for failure and he may very well become another statistic.
I work in professional industry's with people of immense character, education and status. You'd be surprised how many of them are functioning alcoholics. All get the job done, at high levels, consistently and Lawson has demonstrated that through his own self regulation, whilst not cutting out alcohol entirely, he can perform as such.

His first two violations were a couple weeks after he signed with the Kings. That's just a curiosity I suppose but I wonder if the Kings were informed. It's odd though. If he violated 7 months ago (?) why did they wait? Is that the way the legal system works? This part of the saga has nothing to do with the NBA.
